What if you could take all the best things out of your vinyl recordings and
make them as portable as the rest of your collection? Seems like the people over
at mbeat were thinking the same thing, because they came up with an answer with
the Turntable
and Cassette Digital Recorder.
There's always been something special about analogue audio. The crackle and
pop of a vinyl record to the warmth and personality in a cassette tape always
brings a recording to life in a way that digital never has. Unfortunately, vinyl
isn't the most portable of platforms, and finding a Walkman anywhere other than
an opshop these days is near impossible.
Now all that warmth and personality can be taken with you in MP3 format,
simply hook the mbeat Digital Recorder up to your PC, record your vinyl and
cassettes, and upload them to your device. Certainly a lot easier than carrying
a turntable with you.
After 15 years and 6 absolutely fantastic albums, punk rockers Rise Against are
back once again with The Black
Market, a hard hitting album packed to the brim with raw energy &
emotion.
Not content to sit back and say nothing, Rise Against once
again deliver 12 stirring tracks with a ferocious intensity; guaranteed to get
your blood pumping and brain ticking. There's a point when you realise that
this album is like none of its predecessors, sure it has the same high intensity
energy, but something is definitely different this time around.
“I underestimated just what a Rise Against song
is, what the lyrics are and how they can sometimes take you to a dark
place,” explains Tim. “I used to go into songs and walk away
virtually unscathed. When I was creating this record I was having a hard time
walking away from it – I was wallowing in the sadness and the angst of the
songs.”

Brutally honest punk rockers Say Anything
return with their stunning sixth full length studio album Hebrews.
Over the last fifteen years we've felt the pain and joy of frontman Max
Blemis in every song. With a songwriting process that hides nothing and exposes
the listener to every thought & insecurity of Blemis, Hebrews is a hard
hitting album sure to provoke discussion among fans.
Hebrews,
sees the band step away from the usual trappings of a punk album by being the
first to include absolutely no guitars. Instead the album was recorder with an
extensive orchestra, as well as an all-star “cast” of guest vocalists that
includes Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves' Tom DeLonge,
Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra, meWithoutYou's Aaron
Weiss, Every Time I Die's Keith Buckley, the Get Up Kids'
Matt Pryor and Chris Conley of Saves the Day.

We've been boasting a great range of Shure
on Mighty Ape for a while now, but more recently we've added a whole bunch of Shure
styluses for all you DJs out there sticking
to vinyl.
Having sponsored this years DMC, Shure is well known in the
DJ scene for it's flagship stylus and cartridge, the M44–7,
which is heralded as “The king of scratch cartridges”. The slightly
higher price tag is worth it for its great performance. Once set up properly and
broken in, these cartridges almost never skip. Due to it's low tracking force,
record wear is kept at a minimum, ideal for scratch DJs. Single replacement
styluses are also available.
The M44–7 and The M44-G
are definitely aimed towards the scratch DJ, whereas the Shure
Whitelabel cartridge is a concord-style cartridge and considered
the go-to for club DJs. With an output both loud and crisp, no bass is lost
while the mids and highs remain rich and detailed. In addition to this, the
Whitelabel has high skip resistance and low record wear. As if that wasn't
enough, you can easily adjust the stylus overhang (a feature not found on any
other concord-style cartridges.)

Heavy
Metal Ninjas are a local Kiwi band gaining infamy on an
international scale.
Their debut album Interstellar
Abduction, out on Warner
Music, is a combination of beautiful symphonic arrangements, eery
space-themes and out of this world guitar work, utilising 6,
7,
and 8 string
guitars.
Materialising from smoke, lighting up stages and minds with their fingers
(literally!) and leaving people feeling like they've been
abducted for real, the live show is a sight to behold.
