Wow, so let's just all agree that the lineup for Laneways
2015 is looking absolutely bonkers!
Set to go down on the 26th of January, the festival has
already confirmed appearances from some of the hottest artists right now.
Normally with events like this there are one or two acts I really want to
see, so they never really seem worthwhile. That is most definitely not the case
next year as some of my personal favourites will be playing. I'm most excited to
see Flying Lotus, FKA Twigs, Royal Blood, Rustie and
Vic Mensa.
Next years festival has such a broad range of genres, you're pretty much
guaranteed to discover someone new and
awesome.

of October!
1.Streets
of Laredo – Volume I & II – Brooklyn-based, New
Zealanders Streets Of Laredo release their first full-length
album, “Volume I & II”. Destined to be a soundtrack for
spring, this album is a sing-a-long collision of jangling harmonies, stomping
percussion, horns and guitars.
A trip back to New Zealand saw the band record the bones of
“Volume I & II” – ten songs inspired by their old
life in NZ and their new life in NYC – in an old converted Auckland theatre
where they locked down their distinctive sound. Like Bob Dylan running late to a
Ramones concert or Paul Simon getting blind drunk with a Grizzly Bear, however
you describe them the resulting songs and sound have had an instant effect on
fans and critics alike.

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy recently
released Sukierae,
the debut album by Tweedy, the band he formed with his son
Spencer. It's not often you see a father & son combo in music, but these
two work so perfectly together, I have a feeling more artists will give it a
shot in the future.
This week we're treated to a fantastic video for the track ‘Low
Key’, directed by the legendary Nick Offerman, best
known for his part in Parks & Recreation as
everybody's favourite serious man, Ron Swanson.
Keep your eye out for some great cameos in the amusing video below!

1. Tove
Lo – Queen Of The Clouds – Swedish songbird Tove
Lo is rapidly winning over audiences. The sparkly, synth-ridden
track,‘Habits (Stay High),’ is an irresistible dance floor
number with a decidedly dark backbone – using substances to deal with
heartbreak – and according to the singer, creating a slick pop jam like this
one is her way of dealing with relationship obstacles. Of “Not On Drugs,”
Pitchfork says “Now…she's back on her feet and reaching for the
stars—she's not on drugs, she's just in love, and she has the post-Icona Pop
beat drop to prove it”
“For me it's easier to write and sing songs about my feelings than
talking them out with people” she explained. “It's my way of
working through things”

Have you heard ‘Never Catch Me’ the latest track from
the ultra-talented Flying Lotus and Hip Hop heavyweight
Kendrick Lamar?
Give your ears the best possible treat and click play on the video
below…trust me, do it!
In my opinion Kendrick is hands down the best in the field right now. When
combined with the crazy beats and stunning instrumentals Fly-lo creates, we get
a track that sounds like nothing else out there.

Encyclopedia
is The Drums third full-length album. Emerging from Brooklyn
via Florida in 2009, they smashed on the scene with their
‘Summertime!’ EP that led to a spot on the BBC Sound of
2010 shortlist, The ShockWaves NME Tour, and the publication's Phillip Hall
Radar Award.
The Drums music often explores the themes of loss,
nostalgia, redemption, vulnerability, and love with critic's raves embracing
both the lyrics and their sonic signature. This time around, they've embraced a
darker sound while making it as grand and majestic as they please.
‘Encyclopedia’ is full of “magic and surprise
while maintaining a serious, more weighty tone throughout” says Jonny.
The upcoming LP marks the first time since the ‘Summertime!’ EP that Jacob
and Jonny were left to their own devices, without having to ask a soul for
approval. The result is an exciting display of personal emotion and unashamed,
majestic songwriting style.
