Hi book fans,

If you're anything like me, in the last week I've been skipping over to the pantry far too often, while others have been posting fitness challenges I've been curled up with a cup of tea, a book and a bit of baking.

Most office staff at Mighty Ape HQ have been in working from home before the official lockdown began and since then I've used the time I would usually use to drive to work to come up with something delicious for the family. It's also my daughter's birthday coming up so I'm trying our recipes from cookbooks I have around the house to make her birthday extra special this year.

Here's a few recipes I've tried and loved over the last week:

Chelsea Winter's Lockdown Loaf has blown up my feeds with pictures of this delicious looking bread. It's the easiest recipe ever but does require beer, my husband had to sacrifice one of his, the result was so good he's given me his remaining two!

Christmas stockings can be a fun tradition for the whole family or a nice distraction to keep the kids busy on Christmas morning, while you get a little bit more sleep. Check out our full collection of Stocking Stuffer Ideas now!

For the Kids

1. Imagination & Learning

There's nothing like a whole galaxy of Glow in the Dark Stars on a bedroom ceiling to spark the imagination. Keep the kids occupied (let's be honest – you as well) with Science Experiment Kits and the classic Mentos Geyser Tube trick. Younger children can have fun recording and amplifying their voices with a Toy Microphone and learning to spell with Magnetic Letters.

2. Games

Games are the perfect stocking stuffer for kids of all ages! Classics like Barrel of Monkeys and Jenga provide an instant group activity for those Christmases away from home or for when those inevitable holiday guests arrive!

3. Puzzles & Brain Teasers

Buy yourself an even longer Christmas morning sleep in, by including a puzzle or brain teaser in the kids' stockings! Keep it classic with a Rubik's Cube OR The Crystal Puzzle range provides a decent challenge and results in a very cute collectible to display.

Needing a bit of gift inspiration this year? Mighty Ape has you covered! Check out our 2019 Christmas Gift Guide and read on for ideas to suit anyone!

1. Christmas Treats

Sweet treats are the best kind of gift as they are likely to be shared with you! Christmas themed chocolates are ideal for when you’re on a tight budget but still love letting people know you’re thinking of them at Christmas time… or for that colleague you’ve been eyeing up as friend material (but you don’t want to come on ‘too strong’).

2. Summer Fun

Make sure your friends and family members are well stocked for Summer activities this year! Get your boisterous niece or nephew a Nerf N Strike Elite so they can terrorise the rest of your family at the Christmas BBQ. A quirky Ride-On inflatable unicorn lounger for pretty much anyone you know with a pool (who on earth doesn’t love unicorns!?). A portable BBQ for mum/dad/partner so you can all enjoy sausages on the go and a cute beach seat for an optimistic parent (you know they’ll be chasing kids up and down the beach all summer long leaving that seat wide open…for you).

Hachette New Zealand is giving away one of the most impressive Harry Potter prizes we've ever seen!

Purchase a copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: The Journey and enter the competition for your chance to WIN a trip for two (including flights and accommodation) to see the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child live show in Melbourne, plus a behind the scenes experience!

We want this epic prize to be won by a Mighty Ape customer so grab your copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: The Journey now and enter here. Already got your copy? You can still enter.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is one of the most celebrated stage productions of the past decade. Opening in London's West End in 2016, on Broadway in 2018 and in Melbourne in 2019 – and with more productions worldwide still to come (including San Francisco later this year) – the play has smashed records, collected countless rave reviews and awards, and captivated audiences night after night. Now readers are invited behind the scenes to experience the show's journey to the stage – from the earliest phases of development with producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, to the crafting of the eighth Harry Potter story with J.K. Rowling, director John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne, and to the gathering of an extraordinary team of artists and actors together to bring this new part of Harry's story to life.
