In Nana’s day she didn’t use words like sustainability, recycling or
environmentally friendly, yet that is exactly how she lived. Nana would never
have thought to go down to the supermarket to buy a bottle full of bright pink,
green or purple chemicals to clean her home.
Several years ago, Wendyl Nissen (a journalist and broadcaster who writes
popular columns in the Herald on Sunday, the New Zealand Woman's Weekly and New
Zealand Gardener) left a corporate career editing magazines and moved home to
work, where she discovered that a more simple life like Nana led is not only
nurturing for yourself and your family but much healthier, cheaper and most
importantly green.
Wendyl wrote her book Domestic
Goddess on a Budget in 2009 where she shared her natural cleaning recipes
and encouraged other women to live like a Nana too. Her busy corporate friends
then asked her to make up a range of cleaning products that they could simply
buy and use safe in the knowledge they were cleaning with 100% all natural
ingredients, just like Nana used to, and so Wendyl’s Green
Goddess was born!
Each Wendyl’s Green
Goddess product is hand made in Grey Lynn, and carries the recipe on the
label because it is more important to Wendyl that people opt out of using toxic
commercial cleaners and keep their homes free of nasty chemicals than it is for
her to make millions!
