EC Colours Product Review
We recently added the EC Colours brand to our range at Mighty Ape. Having young kids myself I was pretty keen to try it (and so were they). I was impressed with the huge range of vibrantly coloured acrylic paint, “finger paint”::https://www.mightyape.co.nz/…eries/Finger, paint stampers, and tools that were available. As a parent, I'm always on the hunt for well priced, good quality, safe art supplies for the kids. So I was pretty excited when I heard that the paints were non-toxic and made in Australia. I was told that they are very washable. So naturally I wanted to put this to the test, and share the results with you!
Getting Ready
Now normally I wouldn't let my kids paint inside, and most definitely not in white tops. But there was a method to my madness. I was keen to make sure that these paints really delivered on their promise of being washable. Plus, there is also this huge and very heavy duty Splash Mat available which covered the entire 6 seater dining room table. After the kids had finished, the splash mat was very easily wiped down with a damp cloth. Its as clean as a whistle and should be good to go for the next art project or kids party.
Painting Is On!
So off we go, with so much to offer the kids really didn't know were to start! Predictably the first port of call was the finger paint, there's something so irresistible about getting that muck all through your fingers! It went on the paper nice and thick and provided some lovely vibrant colours on their masterpiece's. I was more excited by the fact that it washed off their hands, with just water and left no colour residue on their skin!
The Stamper Pads were next up! The next best thing to finger paint but without the mess. These stamper pads come in 9 different vibrant colours, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of paint hidden away in that sponge. We also used the Stampers to make shapes and create texture. These are so cool! That have so many use's! As they are also non-toxic and totally washable they would be great for a babies first foot print, and are perfect for hand prints! Again, they make very little mess, and after washing off with water leave no colour residue.
Both of the girls really enjoyed the Texture Wands they come in a pack of 4 and I have to say, they are the most solid and substantial tools I have ever seen. They created amazing texture and depth to their art and really allowed them to explore different patterns and use's. There are also some great Stubby Paint Brushes available. They are brilliantly designed for little hands, and stand up to some nice gestural artistic painting! We used a mixture of the Rainbow Acrylic Paint & the Pearl & Glitter Paint, which come in a total of 33 Colours! The colours are so vibrant, they don't soak through the paper and they dry well. Each paint comes in an easy to use 250ml squeezable bottle with a replaceable top.
The Masterpiece
Here's the end result – she was pretty chuffed, and it's now sitting pride of place above my desk at Mighty Ape!
The Cleanup
As if they didn't think that was fun, I then told them to paint each other – what a blast! I have to say I was a bit dubious about whether this stuff would come out, of a WHITE top! I was wrong… I will let these pictures speak for themselves:
BEFORE
In my absent mindedness or perhaps distracted by the cleanup, I actually forgot
to pop the shirts in the washing machine! It wasn't until the next morning that
I remembered, by that stage the paint was nicely dry and I thought probably a
permanent feature on their nice once white singlets.
AFTER
AMAZING!!! No colour residue, no evidence what so ever of paint on these white
singlets, I kid you not..!

That it comes out of their clothes!! my niece gets it EVERYWHERE so this would be awesome!!
By far BEST thing about this selection of paints is that it comes out of clothes! I was surprised to see your pictures of white tops before and after! :) I also love that they are non-toxic! Must have for fun activity day! :)
Most important would be that it is non-toxic. :) Can't be too safe with curious toddlers.
Also, I love how bright and vivid the colours of these are! Most non-toxic and water-based paints tend to be a bit water-y and dull but these look great.
Non toxic for me is the most important - oh and washable probably as my 3 year old is a messy little bean!!! :)
a huge tick is that is will wash out of their clothes!! But most important to me is that they are non toxic! my two year old will probably consume more than he will paint with!
Easy to clean off children's skin would be great!
Non Toxic & Washable! Peace of mind knowing they can have fun and be safe around paint products is great because my kids get so messy when doing arts & crafts!
That it is non toxic- we all know how kids love to stick stuff in their mouthes
Ok, officially need these paints, I usually avoid painting at home because they are so messy and hard to get out when they inevitably get onto the kids clothes.
Looks like a lot of fun - and non toxic and not too expensive - LOVE IT !!
Looks like a great product. Love that it is non toxic and washable, which is a huge plus for me.
It washes out of clothes! I'm so in! So many of my toddlers clothes have a paint stain on!
Love that these are non toxic and easy clean up, great for many little fingers.
That i can let my daughter play freely without worrying about what would happen if she touches her mouth as well as her clothing... she can play learn and explore without me always being worried.
It is easy to clean whether it is on the table, walls floor or clothes. My 2 1/2 year old daughter would spend hours creating her master pieces.
I would love some for my daughter. And easy to clean off surfaces and clothes would be one of the more important factors!
That it's washable and non toxic for the kids.
Non toxic always has to be first with kids closely followed by washable. Unless it is both I'm not buying!
Non-toxic and easy to clean is what I look for in paint. My toddler loves painting, and still sometimes likes to check out how it tastes, so non-toxic is very important
It has to wash out, my kids have so many clothes with paint marks that just won't wash out
