Everything you need to know about BB-8

By Ben

BB-8 is a cute and crafty rolling droid who is set to beep and boop his way into our hearts this Christmas when the latest movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out in cinemas world wide.

The good news is, you won't need to wait until then to finally have a droid of your own – yes, this is the droid we've been looking for :) Meet BB-8 – your very own app-enabled Astromech Droid.

Key features!

  • BB-8 Recognizes and reacts to your voice
  • Record, send and view virtual holographic videos
  • Guide him with your smartphone or tablet
  • Autonomous behavior – BB-8 has a mind of his own!

Assembly is super easy, we have uploaded a quick unboxing onto our Mighty.Ape instagram page so swing by and check it out!

Once you've got him assembled start downloading the BB-8 app – this opens up a world of evolving features and this is available now via the Star Wars Sphero website. With the app you'll be able to use the driving pad to guide your Astromech Droid. BB-8 will go wherever you point and hold, and he will certainly react if you send him into a wall – be a good jedi :)

If you want to send BB-8 off on his own his autonomous behavior allows him to move around, get familiar with your space, and investigate the surroundings – select ‘Patrol’ to get BB-8 on the move!

Of course we can't do any of this without activating so place sphero on the base and connect the usb to a power source (smartphone usb charger, pc, laptop – whatever it takes!)

Now sphero is on the base and charging, you will find a very sneaky little white button on the side – push this and bb-8 will come alive for the first time!

BB-8 is playful, personable, and true to the Star Wars galaxy. His unique traits begin to shine the second he is awake. It’s now possible to explore the galaxy with your own trusty Astromech Droid by your side. More than a just a toy – BB-8 is your companion.

Explore the Star Wars Galaxy together – order your very own BB-8 Droid Today!

Is this _only_ for those with dumbphones? Or can people without still play with him?

I was impressed when they made a life size model. It's not quite as impressive in this size. Still cool though

@ Alias - Yes you will need an Android or iOS phone/tablet device for this - if you visit this link on your phone it should take you directly to the app store and will advise is your device is compatible :) http://www.sphero.com/app-download?app=swapp

Don't have a dumbphone, and currently don't plan on getting one (couldn't afford BeeBee anyway :( )

Don't worry, Alias. I'm sure they'll get around to making a DOS version too. :P

Would be perfect if only that thing on his head that looks like a camera were a camera.
