Solid State Gaming with GALAX - Race and WIN!
By Ben –
Great news, more stock for the GALAX Gaming SSD has just arrived!
To make things even better – those fine folks at GALAX have given us one to GIVEAWAY!
This drive STARTS FAST and STAYS FAST
Consistency is key. Many SSDs have fast maximum speeds but can only maintain them for a short while before performance begins to drop, sometimes dramatically. GALAX Gamer Series SSDs are powered by the advanced Heracles SATA III controller which solves this problem with SLC Cache Auto-Release which streamlines the data pipeline and prevents cache bottlenecks. This effectively eliminates the performance drops prevalent in cheaper drives and lets the GALAX Gamer maintain maximum speed indefinitely.
Designed to be the perfect gaming drive, it delivers industry leading random read speeds with consistent, reliable long-term performance and unparalleled energy efficiency. 7mm ultra slim form factor ensures compatibility with almost any SATA equipped device, be it an ultralight laptop, mini PC or high-end gaming desktop. Upgrading your laptop with a Gamer Series SSD can do more than just make it faster — it can last longer on a charge as well!
A fine addition to any gaming machine would you not agree?
To enter this competition, in the comments below we want to hear how long your PC takes to boot into windows! (to clarify, the winner will be drawn at random – it's not about being the fastest)
Timing should be from the moment you push the on button, crossing the finish line when you have landed on your desktop.
Duane writes…
" I've got an old Acer Predator desktop system and it just took me 35 seconds to get into windows! It used to be way faster – might be time to reinstall everything clean… "
We'll run this competition really fast (like the SSD that's up for grabs) and annouce the winner on Monday coming – You've got to be in to win so get your stopwatches ready, set, GO FOR GALAX!

i got a gaming laptop but it take forever to boot win8 i got last year too
Since my computer is still fairly new, it doesn't take long - 15 seconds.
Well my desktop takes about 10-20 seconds but my laptop (on an HDD) takes like 2 minutes. It could do with a solid state upgrade!
I built my gaming computer in February takes about 15-20 to boot. Didn't have enough money to get a SSD.
My desktop takes a good minute to start up on a WD black HDD and the fans make horrible grinding noises. Might need to make some upgrades soon
My.....Windows7......system.....takes.....far....too.....long.....to.....start.....up.....31secs
Takes a solid minute to boot, likes to spend lots of time with a blank screen before doing anything useful
My laptop takes about 30 seconds to get to desktop, but it is another minute before backgroud processes have booted and it is actually useable.
I got windows 8.1 and a small SSD so it takes under 10 seconds to get to desktop, minus the time it takes to enter password. :)
I remember when I first got my Baboon rig, the boot time was amazing! Now it's slowly getting longer and longer. It's at about 45 seconds right now and I've been umming and arring for months if I can afford the move over to a SSD. I might have to put the GALAX on my wishlist!
About a minute spent waiting for it to get to desktop, and another minute for the background processes to load.
hmmm now this is a good question since i dont really shut my computer down now, just wake it from sleep... but if i shut it down and start it up, probably a good 40~50 seconds until it reaches the desktop in a responsive state...
Slower that the Millennium Falcon does the Kessel Run!!!
15 seconds :D
My 1 year old computer takes about 25 seconds to load up.
My windows 7 laptop takes about 30 secs to run.
i timed my at 3mins win8 bought last year
My PC takes 50 seconds to boot from scratch even with an SSD and Windows 8.1 :(
However it takes about 1:30 to boot from scratch when booting all of my internal drives (Which there is 6 of) :(
My Laptop however only takes 5 seconds or so to boot to desktop from scratch with a standard HDD!
The slowest thing about my PC is the boot time, it takes 53seconds exactly to get to my login screen after pressing the power button. A solid state hard drive would be awesome!
My desktop takes about 35 seconds to boot into windows, which is definitely tolerable compared to my laptop's 1:20... and that's only getting to windows, not opening any programs :(
I just timed my old computer, it takes about 31 seconds to load it up and also including the sounds of a heated computer.
Thanks everyone! I'll get the winner posted in the blog shortly :)
