What to Look for in a Gaming Headset Part One - The Stereo Headset

By Andi

It's funny to think back 5 years when Gaming Headsets were a luxury item. They certainly didn't exist in the range or multitude of brands we have today, and most people seemed to do OK with computer speakers, or sound from their TV.

Now Gaming Headsets are one of the fundamental add ons when considering a gaming experience, but where do you begin to look? Well, we're here to present a few of our favourite headsets that cater to various requirements. From value for money, to top of the line and everything in between, we'll bring you our picks and explain why and where you'd use them.

First up, we're going to look at the simple but effective Gaming Headset. Typically your cheapest option, stereo headsets are also the most common.

Our #1 pick for this is the Logitech G230 Gaming Headset.

Not only does the G230 come at an accessible price point to the customer, but the level of quality in construction means it'll last a long time. Added to that is the removable and washable cups to extend the live of your headset even further (remember – skin and sweat don't personalise a headset, they ruin it.)

Construction and design aside, both the microphone and drivers deliver a quality audio experience – giving your team mates a clear line of communication, while immersing you in the world of the game.

Bang for buck, this will see you through the majority of games with great results. It may not have the surround sound that's almost essential for playing FPS multiplayer, or wireless features so you're not dragging a cable across the living room – but it'll definitely get the job done.

Stay tuned for more, and be sure to swing by our Mighty Gaming Headset Jungle to grab yours!

Looks like Logitech have listened to the feedback on the ear cups. I have a 4 year old set of G35s and they still work as well as the day I bought them but the fake leather look coating on the ear cups started falling to bits and looks really bad. I don't use the extra features on the G35 a lot (the novelty of space squirrel voice morphing does eventually wear off believe it or not) so maybe the G230 could be a good replacement.
