Gundam vs. Ape: Mighty Ape visits the life size Gundam in Tokyo, Japan!

By Ben

I was fortunate enough this week to pay a visit to the Life Size 1/1 Scale Gundam in Tokyo, Japan. Words can't describe how truly epic this thing is!

The RX-78–2 Gundam Replica stands at a staggering 18 meters tall and weighs over 35 tonnes! Each hour the Gundam lights up, starts spewing forth steam and making noises and moves its head around. It is truly epic in every sense of the word!

This truly gigantic Gundam is situated in Odaiba, Tokyo, and will be here until Spring 2013. If you are visiting Japan before then, I highly recommend a visit. It is located in front of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, which is home to a Gundam goods store, Gundam Cafe, and Gundam Museum!

I was so utterly blown away by this gargantuan Gundam, that I picked up my very first Gundam kit on the spot. I can't wait to put it together and have him keep a watchful eye over me while I work.

Originally launched in 1979, Gundam is truly an institution here in Japan (and now around the world) and has spawned multiple anime series, manga, video games and of course Model Gundam kitsets. Model Gundam Kitsets are insanely popular the world over! Check out Mighty Ape Dan showing how you put one together!

If you want to experience the phenomenon for yourself, why not check out our huge range of Gundam kitsets and pick one up today!
