She owns a tame pet vulture called Vernon, which her grandfather, a vet, gave her when she visited him in Venezuela. Violet enters a competition for the best pet in Class 1 of her primary school. It is important for her to wear her violet vest on the day of the competition. Will Victoria and Vernon win the competition, and why is her violet vest so important?

Author Biography:

Throughout a career spanning science to social work, Gloria loved to make up stories, first for her three children when they were small, and then for her five grandchildren. Over the past three years, inspired by her younger sister, Jackie, who teaches phonics to pre-school children, she has written and illustrated numerous phonics focused storybooks, and continues to write her stories in the hope that they will make learning to read fun. Recently she has also written her own story in the form of an autobiographical novel.
