My personal favourite Volume from Series 2. And this is why…
My earliest memory of Doctor Who was a Tom Baker episode with K-9, his faithful tin dog. The episode “School Reunion” featured K-9's comeback, along with Sarah Jane Smith, a companion that will be remembered by those who watched Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker in their incarnation of the Doctor. In this episode, the Doctor is forced to admit an unhappy truth about having lived for 900 years.
“Tooth and Claw” is a great story also on this DVD, involving Queen Victoria, and a werewolf – and we see the birth of Torchwood, which featured prominently later in the series, and subsequent spin-offs. A good episode with excellent special effects.
But my favourite episode is “The Girl in the Fireplace”. Maybe that's just because Sophia Myles was perfect as Madame de Pompadour, or maybe it's the emotion in the script – the Doctor meets a human who truly understands him. For a while, at least. Steven Moffatt is truly the best writer on the Doctor Who staff.
Five Stars – I never tire of this one.
