Tell Us & Win - Elgato's Smart Key

By Andy

The guys at Elgato have been very actively broadening their horizons. Already very well known for their expertise in video game capture hardware, they are once again bringing forward a product to alleviate the stress losing something dear to you.

The Elgato Smart Key is a very nifty little device indeed. It connects to your Apple device with iOS 7 or later via bluetooth, and from there it tracks what ever you attach it to.

The first thing that came to mind when I got my hands on one, was my keys, simple enough to clip it on an empty key ring and never lose my keys again. But the possibilities are truly endless…

A few of the more creative uses I have seen floating about are…

  • Leaving the Smart Key in my car to help me find it in busy car parks.
  • Stashing one in my baggage so I know when to expect it when waiting at the airport.
  • Leaving the key at my work desk. That way I can set reminders on my phone that get displayed when I am right there.
  • Attached to my camera so I get a notification whenever I leave it behind accidentally!

Thanks to the guys at Elgato we have one to give away to one lucky monkey. All you need to do, is tell us in the comments bellow;

How would you use your Elgato Smart Key?

Andy Says:
I would attach it to my pet rabbits collar when I let him run around the house. That way he will never be able to hide away for the whole day when it is time for him to go home!

I am looking forward to seeing your creative answers! Don't let me down team. :)

    Either my phone, for when it goes walk abouts or when the couch eats it.
    Or as i travel a lot and always scared my baggage will get lost id pop it in my suitcase and that would really give me some relief knowing where it is and when it gets to me.

    But in all reality id need it most on my keys. i loose them all the time and mum gets mad because we have nearly had to change all the locks in the house as i accidently put the keys in the bin when tidying my room. I have probably lost sets of keys around 18 times. no joke

    I'd give it to my cousin who's child is autistic and who has a habit of running away. It would be a brilliant way to track where Jackson's disappeared to by attaching it to his shoes or on a necklace

    In my bag because if someone stole it I could track them down and report them to the police

    @Skye

    How are you going to find the key tag if you attach it to your phone and leave your phone somewhere... :P

  • Skye says: 20 May 2015, 11:05am

    I have an ipod for the tracking a phone for the chatting :):)

    will probably find a way to put in on my hard drive. don't want to lose all those photos and backup games on it

    @ Sander - brilliant, attaching it to the kids when going out is complete genius!

    I would attach it to my wallet, not only will it look very fashionable but also that I could track it down whenever I lose or when someone stole it. :D I did lose my wallet once, it was an old wallet but it had some money in it and atm card that I had to renew so it was a huge hassle. I bought myself a new wallet so hope I won't lose this one. *cross fingers*

    Attached to my little girl. She likes playing hide & seek, but is a bit too good at hiding! (silently too)

  • Anthony says: 21 May 2015, 10:02pm

    I would attach it to the TV remote, so everytime I go to the loo, and the channel gets changed, ill know exactly who changed it. :P

    I would leave in my car. Sometimes when you park your car in a huge parking lot, the place where you think your car is parked at, just vanished. With this I can find my car without spending 20 minutes huffing and puffing like an idiot looking for my car.

    I would give it to my dad so he can put it in his bag cause he carries this bag everywhere he goes but sometimes forgets it and this will help him remember to take his bag
