I was playing Alien Isolation when my old chair broke, and my brother said that i could use him till i was done (: so i thought id be nice and do the same for him.. Then he told me he was going to make some gaming videos for Youtube 4.5hrs later, who needs knees anyway (: .. Only to find an old chair in the attic.. What brothers do for each other ^^

I normally sit on the corner of the couch to play PS4, however on this particular day the couch was occupied with my sleeping wife and 2 sleeping dogs.

Got the bean bag from the spare room, and no sooner was that down then one of the dogs decided to get up and curl up on that instead!

Ended up using my Ice Hockey Gear Bag (full of pads)! Not actually that uncomfortable actually!

I think the funniest substitute for a gaming chair I've ever used would probably be a rocking chair.

  • Keagan says: 15 October 2014, 4:36am

Mine was probably when my family was in the midst of moving, I din't have any chairs or anything. So I used my drawers. Very uncomfortable but it worked for the next few hours!

Back when I played WoW, my chair had broken about 10 minutes before a raid. A stack of cushions that were all different sizes and kept trying to topple me sideways if I moved wrong was the quick solution! One of the most unpleasant gaming experiences I've had, and we didn't even kill the boss we were attempting, but I did end up on the floor twice though, once mid-fight which ended up with me wiping the raid...oops!

  • Chris says: 15 October 2014, 11:02am

Last time my gaming chair broke, i ended up having to sit on a large plant pot, turned upside down, with a cusion on it. Not ideal but hey did the job

  • Lars says: 15 October 2014, 11:03am

I once used my child as a chair.

  • Nick says: 15 October 2014, 11:04am

Had a chair fall apart during BF3 Clan match. Last round was on my Knees

  • Jose says: 15 October 2014, 11:06am

    Sat on my wife once..

  • Kaz says: 15 October 2014, 11:06am

I've never had a gaming chair so I've used everything, from sitting on a couch, bed, floor, very uncomfortable wooden dining chair, even sitting on a smaller table!

  • Briar says: 15 October 2014, 11:06am

I've sat an a couple of boxes of beers stacked up.. Would've been fine if every 20 mins asking for a bottle.. Eventually my makeshift chair became lopsided.. And unsuitable.

  • Blair says: 15 October 2014, 11:07am

Used a beanbag for many years as my monitor for gaming was setup on a super low desk... Did the job for a while!

  • Brendon says: 15 October 2014, 11:08am

One time I made a chair out of old wood in under 10 minutes. Fell apart after about 10 minutes too, I also made a hell of a mess

  • Michael says: 15 October 2014, 11:08am

It's not particularly funny, but for the past 4 years or more I've been using a piano stool as a gaming chair because I never got around to replacing my chair when the back fell off. Kept using it for a while, but every time I would lean back the metal rod would dig into my spine. Oops.

  • Nicholas says: 15 October 2014, 11:08am

My chair broke mid gaming session and so i used the nearest chairish object which turned out to be the oil heater in my room. Suffice to say, oil heaters aren't very stable so i had a nasty fall. Not my best choice ever.

  • Amy says: 15 October 2014, 11:08am

A Pikachu... I used my giant pikachu as a seat when I was forced to charge my controller while in a dungeon.

  • Jeremy says: 15 October 2014, 11:09am

I was on my chair once and my mate decided it'd be funny to dive bomb me which instantly snapped my chair. I have a long table with my pc on it so i just lay across the table to game. Not to good for the neck but the gaming had to happnen :D

  • Shane says: 15 October 2014, 11:10am

We'd just moved into our apartment - no furniture - but had done a big shop - including 30-can boxes of soft drink that were on special. My copy of Skyrim arrived in the mail - what was one to do? An all night marathon using 8 boxes of coke as a seat that became increasingly uncomfortable as the evening wore on - the hardwood floor became an increasingly attractive proposition!

  • Alison says: 15 October 2014, 11:10am

My son sits on a dirty old foot stool with cushions on it when he can't bear to sit on the floor anymore. He looks really funny, low to the ground and it's so uncomfortable. Would love to win him this chair for christmas.

  • Bettina says: 15 October 2014, 11:10am

The worst I ever used was a concrete floor, pulled an all-nighter playing Halo 3 back in the day and beat 6 levels solo LASO. Couldn't sit down in the morning but IT WAS WORTH IT... I think...

  • Todd says: 15 October 2014, 11:11am

Having to sit on my bed as we don't have a descent enough chair to sit on in-front of my tv but the problem it means the tv is so far away so i cant seen #firstworldproblems

  • Finn says: 15 October 2014, 11:12am

Before I moved out of home, I got my new pc, but I didn't have a desk or a chair to sit on so for a couple days I had my whole pc set up on the ground and played on the ground.

  • James says: 15 October 2014, 11:12am

I need more gaming power! Current chair is not enough

  • Iain says: 15 October 2014, 11:14am

Had a boken computer chair (no back, so it was basically a computer stool with arm rests) and an old blue jamex reclinable bucket seat, office stool + bucket seat = budget homemade version of the DXracer gaming chair haha

  • Daniel says: 15 October 2014, 11:14am

Well, my funny substitute for a chair is my current chair which is sitting on the edge of my bed with no back rest.

  • James says: 15 October 2014, 11:14am

I've had to sit on an upturned plastic box with a cricket pad for cushioning. A long gaming session meant playing through the back pain O_O

  • Diane says: 15 October 2014, 11:14am

Well mine is a tale of wonder and determination not to miss my WoW raid. It was a cold night when my trusty chair had given way to the mass amount of chips I had consumed, has she crumbled as did I.... well fell together like old friends jumping into the swimming hole, but alas she did no rise again :(. I had to think quick and evolve into a DIY god of sorts. I grabbed my broken coffee table (I don't have nice things for a reason probably) a stack of books and made a homemade chair, unfortunately it was not high enough so I then had to grab the 6 random prehistoric jigsaws that no one had even seen for years let alone touched and jimmy'd them into my Frankenstein creation. It worked! Buttttttt not for long this is why I am sharing my sad tale of lose with you kind gaming folk!

  • Ashleigh says: 15 October 2014, 11:15am

What's a chair and desk? I just use the floor! My dog gives me back support from time to time, he acts as my wall. Lucky he is such a big dog and I'm a little person! Truly mans best friend. But I am a girl but who cares, I am the man!

  • Devlyn says: 15 October 2014, 11:15am

i basically used my bed as a substitute for my chair when i didnt have one. i mounted a screen above my headboard on my bed, flipped the display using the computer and i was done. i already had a Logitech wireless G602 and a wireless keyboard so it was very cool playing and sleeping in the same place. my parents say its gonna fall and smack my face but im not worried because i made it with my own hands, so ill know when it breaks. Pics are on my facebook

  • Anthony says: 15 October 2014, 11:15am

My chair back always comes off! When I'm killed in BF4 and scream in agony the back falls off and I nearly end up on the floor! All the guys on teamspeak say "wow what happened to you!?". Plus not to mention the stuffing coming out and getting stuck to my pants! Its time for an upgrade!

  • kieran says: 15 October 2014, 11:17am

lol the worst gaming chair i had was a full steel chair it was really hard to sit there for even 30mins playing a game let alone a full 4 hours

  • Keith says: 15 October 2014, 11:18am

I was leaning back on my chair when the back gave way and i fell on the ground. Wasnt injured too badly but the next few hours sitting on an empty swappa crate really hurt :-P

  • Isaac says: 15 October 2014, 11:21am

Way back when we first started being able to take computers round to friends' we would pull draws out of dressers and use them as seats, then use the dresser as a desk with our feet through the draw slots.

  • Jordis-Ty says: 15 October 2014, 11:21am

Currently i am using a BEER CRATE, before that it was one of those cheap ass white plastic outdoor chairs which broke when i leaned back on it. But atm it is a beer crate. Cant afford to buy a new chair right now but this would be fantastic. I play competition CoD and had to play the last 2 rounds of the astro league on the crate it is really hard to sit on it for long perods of time because its a beer crate lol. please pick me this time,.

  • Michael says: 15 October 2014, 11:22am

I have been using my bed for who knows how long now. I have a tonne of pillows so I kinda stack them up to make some kind of back rest. I stick a mouse pad on my wacom tablet and stick that on another pillow and have another pillow to rest the keyboard on. I then hope that the batteries in the wireless stuff doesn't cut out on me half way through a game..

  • Laurence Patrick says: 15 October 2014, 11:27am

i just try to sit on my bed. Problem is I always fall asleep.

  • David says: 15 October 2014, 11:28am

One night when the whole family was staying over and every room was full we had no where we could play borderlands 2 together without waking someone up and it had just come out so we couldnt wait. So we moved the tv to the garage and set his xbox up and sat on the hood of the car playing all night. Our parents were pissed when they found us and saw the dent we had left in the hood of the car. Kinda worth it still...

  • Andrew says: 15 October 2014, 11:28am

My computer chair broke mid game so ended up playing on my knees, once the game was over the only substitute I could find was an old beer crate and a cushion off the couch. My chair is currently held together by some bolts I drilled in and some duct tape.

  • Anthony says: 15 October 2014, 11:28am

I just moved into a new place and i got bored so i played standing up, i was waiting for rest of my stuff to arrive. Normally not a problem but i lost track of time and after 4 hours i head them pull up so take a step and fall on my face.

  • Hamish says: 15 October 2014, 11:28am

well I don't even have a real chair. Ive been using a crappy wooden chair with a pillow on it for the last year and a half. I can tell you your bum and back get sore pretty quick.

  • Cory says: 15 October 2014, 11:28am

So im one to sit center screen when playing, none of this sitting to the side. With the missus sleeping on the main couch (which is center screen) and clean washing on the couch off to the side. Using a clean washing pile can be very comfortable and amusing when you finally move to find jeans button marks imprinted on ya back

  • Sebastian says: 15 October 2014, 11:29am

I was playing an online game with my friends and i leaned back for a stretch after completing a boss and the chair finally gave after all those years. Had to stack a bag, a few textbook and some pillow for a substitute chair for awhile.

  • David says: 15 October 2014, 11:35am

I had been playing on my 360 when my old gaming chair gave up the ghost and the legs snapped. My daughter was kind enough to lend me little chair, which was damn small and reminded me of an adult sitting in one of those supermarket kids motion rides.

  • Pete says: 15 October 2014, 11:36am

My brother said there was someone at the door for me but when I went he shoved me out and locked the door, all because I was beating him in NBA 2K14 :P so I was forced to use the outside fence and play through the window. p.s I still won :3

  • Junior says: 15 October 2014, 11:37am

Had an old beat up racing seat, we screwed it to a piece of wood, then attached that to the bottom of our old office chair wheels, for movement, but eventually the wood cracked and the whole thing was useless :'(

  • David says: 15 October 2014, 11:38am

Used baby cousin's chair as a seat.

  • William says: 15 October 2014, 11:40am

I had a office chair but one time I was using it and one of the wheels came of which mean that if you ever lent a little to the side there was no wheel then the chair would fall over so during gaming I would lean over and the whole chair would almost roll over. And you would get such a big shock each time!

  • Lazarus says: 15 October 2014, 11:40am

I'm using a dining table from the 80s that we found sitting on the side of the road lmao

  • Kees says: 15 October 2014, 11:41am

I'm currently using a Kathmandu blow up camping seat on top of my bed it's not the best but it kinda works my bed room has a big window into the street, I get strange looks.
This would be 1000 times better.

  • Ryan says: 15 October 2014, 11:41am

My chair's backrest gave out, so my father in law managed to prop it back up into place with a few blocks of wood he put inside the chair, which worked fine. Unfortunately, the extra weight has led to the chair damaging the carpet, so now I'm using a terrible chair with no cushioning so as not to incur the wrath of the Landlord...

  • James says: 15 October 2014, 11:43am

Had to use an empty beer keg once. The flat was low on furniture at that point and we had had the flat warming the night before. Not the most comfortable, considering that the top isn't even flat.

  • Kevin says: 15 October 2014, 11:43am

Had an old office chair that lost a wheel and kept tilting to one side every time I got to a point where I had a running battle the dam chair would start to fall over the screen was too high to sit on the floor with out getting a stiff neck so ended up sitting on an exercise bike bit tough on the back but had a good resting spot for my elbows..

  • joshua says: 15 October 2014, 11:43am

im sort of using beer crates as a chair but can only play for so long and a little purple kids table to sit everything on so yea kind of annoying

  • Joel says: 15 October 2014, 11:43am

Student flat days and the day we found a toilet that was thrown out was a great day. It became an all purpose seat including, at one point, a computer chair.

  • Jonson says: 15 October 2014, 11:44am

An old wooden rocking chair that would squeak all the time and then finally broke which almost gave me a wooden enema....... Memories

  • Reuben says: 15 October 2014, 11:44am

My office chair that became my gaming chair 'died' many years ago. Have never really found a decent chair to replace it that has a high back support. So the only way I've been able to get "comfortable" is by stacking up bean bags and pillows for that semi-reclining sitting/laying positioning. Not always practicle, but better than nothing...

  • Akaash says: 15 October 2014, 11:44am

Well luckily my chair is simple in design, it doesnt have too many moving parts etc.

But in saying that, it has lots of screw on parts, which are all falling apart.

Exhibit A: I'm watching a video on youtube, I decide to lean back and the back-rest falls off, mainly because the SINGLE screw and washer holding it on is coming up on 12 years.

Exhibit B: Im finishing up my Level 2 Accounting internal in the wee hours of the morning. As i groggily complete my task my arm rests begin to squeak. About 5 minutes after the first squeak, 2 (of 6) screws are broken lose, and the rest jiggle put from the release of pressure... And my arms hang like an ape's near the floor, causing my body to suddenly lean forward into my table! The chair was only 9 years old at this point

Exhibit C: Playing League of Legends in our 5 man ranked team (don't worry, we're nothing special lol). Theres points in this game that are make it or break it, and that point was quickly approaching for my team. We were all on edge as our promotion out of Bronze relied on this win, so things were a bit tense. We're fighting in our base, knowing if we can pull an ace, we can bring this back and win. Fortunately, we had a fight going in our favour just by our nexus turrets. We had freshly spawned minions and the enemy team was retreating, 3 on our side to their 3. So as you can imagine, we chased, we pushed out our minions while clearing the way, I was out in front being a tanky Darius trying to soak up all the siege minion damage. It wasn't until we broke through their inhibitor that my chair decided to shoot down low and send the sharpest pain up my back -doing so, ripping the audio cables from the back of my screen and making the screen fall forward onto my table.. I'd like to say that's the reason I threw the game, but my friends wont let me hear the end of it :P

  • Tony says: 15 October 2014, 11:44am

The middle of a race in GT6, my seat back broke causing the back of the chair to pretty much come of the seat, the closest thing I could find was my daughters pink Barbie chair and an armful of her soft toys, boy did I get told off by her when she came back into the room!

  • filip says: 15 October 2014, 11:47am

My normal chair broke after good long while of usage and I haven't had time or money to go get a new one, so I substituted it with a beach chair :/ those things are damn uncomfortable to play on!

  • Nicholas says: 15 October 2014, 11:51am

Well I once used a saxophone case

  • Pratik says: 15 October 2014, 11:52am

While playing racing games, its either the foot stool with no padding left or a bean bag with 3 pillows for back support

  • Karyn says: 15 October 2014, 11:53am

My sons Mountain Buggy Push Chair :) It was good for the tires and was just out of pure laziness :)

  • Stefan says: 15 October 2014, 11:53am

A few years back I had a generic chair from Warehouse Stationary. After a few years it started to become very sweaky and unstable. It wasn't till I tipped it over and realised that the plate connected to the gas pipe had completely sheared off. I was a poor student at the time and was unable to afford a replacement so I got some tie downs from the car and used those by wrapping them around the arm rest and the base to keep the chair level. This also prevented the gas pipe from being used so it was always at its lowest. This lasted about a week or two before I got completely sick of it and brought a new one off TM. That one is now starting to get uncomfortable so I'm actually in the process of making a new one using an old BMW chair.

  • scott says: 15 October 2014, 11:53am

For me probably the worst time without a chair was at Digital Nationz. At the free-to-play computers the desks were too short for me to stand and to tall for me to kneel. So I'm this tall lanky guy, with a group of people watching me play because I'm high ranked, standing there hunched over the screen with my legs spread wide and knees slightly bent so I can get down to screen level and my wrists contorted into strange positions. So I deviate between standing and stretching and sitting on the concrete floor every 10 seconds. I would have loved a dxracer then..

  • Thomas says: 15 October 2014, 11:55am

  • Brenden says: 15 October 2014, 11:56am

My daughters plastic, pink chair she uses at her kiddy table lol, didn't last long until i was sitting on the floor because i was scared it was just going to give way.

  • Jack says: 15 October 2014, 11:58am

When my family and I moved house, we had a ridiculous number of boxes. When we reached our new lair, I of course immediately opened up the box with the PC in it before anything else, because, you know, priorities.

Now, after my rig was set up on my desk, I couldn't find a damn chair in the entire house, as the second truck with our furniture hadn't turned up yet. Not even a foot stool. So I grabbed a sturdy looking box and used that instead. Not exactly comfortable, but dammit I needed my gaming fix.

At one particularly rage-inducing counter, I pushed myself back from the desk in exasperation and promptly fell right into the box, badly hurting my tailbone after landing on something hard inside it. Guess what was in it?

    My disassembled drum stool.

Yo dawg, I heard you liked sitting, so we put a seat in your box seat so you can sit while you sit.

  • Rory says: 15 October 2014, 12:03pm

Beer crate - given I am 6 foot 7 this was not ideal for any amount of time over about an hour... This is back when I pretty much only played FIFA though so didn't have to worry about keyboard and mouse problems.

  • Tyson says: 15 October 2014, 12:03pm

I have a moldy stained blue desk chair thats broken and is over 15 years old and is a hand me down from family I have never bothered to spend money on a new one because that money could be better spent on games or PC upgrades but I would be very happy if I could have a free one

  • John says: 15 October 2014, 12:05pm

The funniest thing I have ever used was when I was playing Outlast for the first time, I had just moved into my new flat so everything was packed or not available at the time and I was using a box.... Although this did not go to well when the big mother fucker jumped out at me during the game and I got the fright of my life and fell through the box.... yeah one of those chairs would be pretty sweet!

  • Rory says: 15 October 2014, 12:11pm

  • Leyton says: 15 October 2014, 12:12pm

Mine is a cheap fake leather one from the Warehouse with roughly 65% of it remaining. quite a few years old now a few wheels have fallen off to be replaced with bits of wood.. The screws holding the back on have superglue added but I now cant adjust the height to fit under my desk properly. I was considering using a chair from the table but it would constantly need to be taken to and from the dining room.

  • Erica says: 15 October 2014, 12:13pm

Hubby seems to think the coffee table makes a good seat.

  • Liam says: 15 October 2014, 12:14pm

Ladies and gentlemen well most say a chair is a chair but you don’t understand the need until you are real Gamers
See the problem is the comfort the right and the height of your chair minimal restraint on your arms and back and next but me and my chairs have been through hard break ups I’ve even been down on my knees for them not being able to make it to an important match for my gaming I have had to suffer from coffee tables to but there have been the times were I have also had a good chair like at my mates or uncles. i know what the luxury of having a chair like this would be like.....but i shall keep dreaming in hope there will be one at my doorstep or my bank will fill with enough money to be able to purchase such a rare and important luxury in my gaming.

  • Simon says: 15 October 2014, 12:17pm

Mine is cracking and peeling and leaving red flakes all over the place that look like blood splotches. It squeaks like a bastard and won't got up and down anymore and the arm rests are coming apart.

One time had several friends over for a gaming night and i had made sure prior that everyone would have space to set up, later i realized that i had done this but they all had nothing to sit in so first we dragged up 4 dinning table chairs for them some to sit on whilst me and another had a collection of books stacked on top of each other with a small cushion on the top, for comfort you see, so yes we looked like the classiest bunch of nerds.

  • Erin says: 15 October 2014, 12:25pm

My fiance purchased a racing car set of pedals and a steering wheel in preparation for the release of GT5 and some computer rally games from Mighty Ape. So instead of replacing our broken computer seat with a nice chair, he built a rig out of bits of timber and a manky old car seat he scrounged from a friend selling his car for scrap. So every time we want to use the desktop, we have to drag this entire rig up to the desk and stare up at the monitor from a car seat pretty much situated on the floor, which means we have to bend down to the side to use the mouse on the floor too. And it's on sliders so it bolts back and forward whenever you move. It drives me BANANAS.

  • Tim says: 15 October 2014, 12:26pm

Right now, I am using a very old swivel chair. It has a low back rest, low arm rests and worse of all it's quite low. I like to game a lot/use it for work for long durations and it does start to hurt my back. Maybe a good thing is that it forces me to sit up straighter (due to the short height) but it strains my back after long durations because there's not enough back support :(

The best thing would be if I had an actual gaming chair like this, would be that I CAN SLEEP IN IT! I would love a chair that can let me rest my head on it! Would also love a chair that has good arm rests, comfortable, and adjustable seating!

Thanks for the chance to have one of these MightyApe! You guys really are generous and that's why I love shopping with you guys now!

At a LAN party with me and my mates just games and afew beers, the chair unexpectedly broke early in the first day of a long weekend, I spent the next 2 and a half days sitting on a beer crate. Definitely started to get uncomfortable after awhile.
But at the moment my gaming chair is just an old office one that has the wheel somehow fall off every now and then, and slowly goes down when using it, not really noticeable in game but after wards it just leaves you confused as to how you didn't notice. It's also been used so much there isn't much cushioning left

  • Blake says: 15 October 2014, 12:29pm

The cat took over my chair so I sat on my computer chassis.

As all cat owners know: You can't disturb them when they're sleeping.

  • Logan says: 15 October 2014, 12:31pm

Funniest substitute for a chair would have to be when the stand on my desk chair broke, i removed the seat section and superglued it to a beer crate, it worked out to be roughly the same height and lasted a few months!

  • Taylor says: 15 October 2014, 12:38pm

My dog. I tried sitting on the mrs but she just doesn't have the patience like my dog does for long marathons. Better than my usual playing on the floor.

  • Hamish says: 15 October 2014, 12:40pm

My funniest chair would have to be when I used 2 of my camera tripods and a sheet to make a hammock. It worked pretty well, but you had to find something to hold the tripods down

  • Dan says: 15 October 2014, 12:41pm

My Gaming chair is still broken... not so much it can't be sat on though, but it is lethal when you forget not to lean back and it tips you out of the back of it, it's like The Red Chair from Graham Norton! Mess something up badly enough, throw head back in frustration, land on floor! So, my substitute is basically a prop from the Graham Norton show!

  • Tyler says: 15 October 2014, 12:44pm

The ground? Is that funny enough?! I need a new chair so badly.

  • Jordan says: 15 October 2014, 12:47pm

I built a small footstall during my year 12 wood tech. it had thick legs and wasnt much wider than a chair. i got it home and had no room in the lounge so i ended up using it as a seat to game on my laptop in my room. i spent 40 days of game time in WoW on that "chair"

i was leaning on my armrest and it broke causing me to barrelroll onto the floor. now i hav no right armrest.

  • James says: 15 October 2014, 12:49pm

All the padding on my chair has worn down, so it's like sitting on hard wood. I can even feel the screws in the wrong sitting posotion

  • Cleave says: 15 October 2014, 12:54pm

I use a wooden dining room chair which constantly has to be moved back for dinner each night. Its a bit more comfortable when I'm propped up with my Baron pillow. Sometimes Ill just kneel when my chair is still at the table.

  • Lochie says: 15 October 2014, 12:57pm

My chair that I used was originally some crappy bar stool of trademe. My brother is not one of the smallest people, so as he sat on it, the welding split and the chair caved in. I cant afford a gaming chair so my closest substitute was to go to a scrap yard, remove a seat from a random car and attach it to a set of desk chait wheels. Not judging the weight of the chair vs the strength of the wheels, the wheels split under the pressure, sending a sharp plastic shard through the soft seat right underneath me. Couldnt sit down for days

  • Adam says: 15 October 2014, 1:06pm

    A chair.

  • Dan says: 15 October 2014, 1:13pm

A friend and myself decided to have a LAN. COD4 & MW2 together against all odds, along with some coop Sniper Elite V2 & COD:WOW coop. My friend had his PC setup on a low table, so I placed mine beside it on a small coffee table. I had to use a broken beer crate to sit on, not only was it uncomfortable, I tell off my perch when I had the begeezers scared out of me (last survivor defusing the bomb when I seen the enemy 360 no scope me jumping off a building :/) and it shattered under my butt. It was well and truly game over for me after that.

  • Shane says: 15 October 2014, 1:13pm

As a builder found a 2nd hand decent chair with no base. Swaped with my current chair base only to find that I couldn't lean back due to it being off balance so bolted it in position.
now the wheels fell off so it dont roll. My brother bought him self a new chair so I have his hand me down.

  • Mohamad says: 15 October 2014, 1:42pm

My worst chair was a very old computer chair, with the backrest hanging by one flimsy modified plastic rod. There was also no armrest and exposed sponge of the actual seat, the exposed sponge was then covered with an old shirt that was sewn on top of the seat. The keyboard was always at about chest height because it could not go up and and 3 out of the 5 wheels where broken. The funny thing was that I actually found it quite comfortable and I quite liked it, my old shirt gave it personality.

  • Carlo says: 15 October 2014, 1:42pm

the back of my chair keeps rubbing on the back wall, therefore scratching the wall paint
and also sometimes I cannot access our computer chair and have to use a backless stool for gaming :(

  • Nikolai says: 15 October 2014, 1:43pm

Once sat on a bucket since I was too lazy to unpack that evening after moving into a new flat. At the time I was also sporting a fairly impressive moustache. That evening flatmates kept stealing my bucket and making me say "Dey be stealing mah bucket" to get it back.

Since then no longer have moustache and have never sat on a bucket. Regular chair was a large improvement. Gaming chair would be nice, but as a student is kinda out of budget range unless I want to not buy books/actual food.

I used the edge of my bed, but I sat there for so long that the springs had broken and it molded into the shape of my rear. Then a few weeks after that the wooden supports shattered underneath me so I used some fire wood to hold up the mattress. I threw away the bed a few months later and the wooden log had sunk into the carpet and made a glue from all the spilt fizzy drinks and food crumbs. Now I'm using an old chair.

  • Peter says: 15 October 2014, 2:18pm

Well When my old gaming chair broke, The middle bit was sticking into the ground in there I was with a chair making sure not to go backwards as I'd end up on the ground. I ended up going backwards quite a lot landed on my butt a couple of times too.

Not that funny but now using the same brand and eventually it'll end up like the same story :p

  • Aaron says: 15 October 2014, 3:06pm

Well the mechanism in my chair for it going up and down is slightly broken. One minute I'm sitting at a comfortable height, next I'm slowly sinking to my utter demise as the chair has taken a mind of its own and decided that I need to be as low as possible to the ground... So I have a cunning plan! Use and old kenwood speaker as a seat. Not the most comfortable thingy I might add, made out of wood, but its better than my chair at the moment.

  • Nick says: 15 October 2014, 3:09pm

I think the most desperate I have been was whilst I was in the middle of a game of StarCraft 2, and obviously this is a game that you cannot go in half halfheartedly. My chair snapped at the base, and I had to go with the traditional air chair, knees bent at 45degrees to preserve the posture, funnily enough it was one of the best games I've had personally.

Well...I have a funny but random one :P

I was at my mates house and not everyone has 2 gaming chairs...so I decided to sit on the closest thing to a chair. I didn't think anything of it... but it turned out to be a giant paper mâché head. When I first moved out of my parents place I had very little furniture, and so for a desk chair I actually just had a car booster seat taped to a little stool. It was actually quite comfortable, except when the tape came off and I was dumped onto the ground in the middle of a raid in World of Warcraft... Anyway, now I've got an old desk chair from work but I've always wanted a really nice gaming chair as I spent a lot of my spare time gaming!

  • Jesse says: 15 October 2014, 4:33pm

My current chair is a cheap rubbish chair I bought second hand. It's fairly uncomfortable and frayed and worn, but it's managed to do what few chairs can - last a long time. On that note however my cat (a 9 kilo monster) likes to steal my chair (I guess he likes the smell of my butt) so I'm often stuck grabbing a drum stool from the other room and using that instead. Cheeky Bugger!

The funniest thing i have used as a chair during a gaming session was a slab of fizzy drink cans at a friends local LAN.
It was the right height as i was designated the coffee table for my PC... It also seemed like a great idea as i could have one or 2 while i was playing and still have a seat.
That was well and good until others got thirsty and wanted drinks too. slowly my chair shrunk until i was sitting in the tray for the drinks and there were no drinks left. the coffee table was too high after that unless i wan on my knees... poor knees.

  • Mike says: 15 October 2014, 5:30pm

I was, and still am, in the worlds worst office chair. A tiny blue thing that makes my knees bend upwards (being so lanky) and back support that did reach just under my ribs. But of course this pillow on a stick chair backing broke during some intense counter strike gameplay because I lent back I utter exhaustion. So now I have This little stool with a bent up pole that used to hold my (if you could call it) back pillow that is constantly jabbing into my back and now I have back pains that my doctor said "lacks bracing while most likely sitting" and "needs to sit up more." But after 5 or so years what do you expect from a $40 office chair?

  • Zaid says: 15 October 2014, 5:35pm

  • Liam says: 15 October 2014, 5:37pm

Where do I even begin when it comes to my chair...

Firstly, it comes from a smokers home, meaning that it smells awful, and makes anything that comes near it smell awful.

To compound this, the spine of the chair is bent, meaning that it digs into my back when I'm sitting down, only made worse by the fact that the back of the chair doesn't lift up, resulting in my upper body being unsupported and thus giving me a lot of grief.

This makes the chair a pain to study in, and I regularly find myself just borrowing a chair from the dining table to use when doing any degree of work.

The fabric on the chair is also beginning to tear a bit, resulting in me having to do some sewing, to prevent it from tearing, and trust me I'm horrifically bad at sewing.....

Finally, because the wheels are tight, I don't even get the satisfaction of one of the most entertaining parts of any computer chair - rolling around in it immaturely.

So yeah, I am definitely in need of a replacement! :)

  • Patrick says: 15 October 2014, 5:39pm

Back in my country (Philippines) you rather spend money buying food instead a gaming/office chair so any object you can be a seat as long as it sturdy and can carry a butt. I remember when I was like 14, my dad has a small unfurbished office room for our small servicing business that specializes in Air-conditioning cleaning. The room had a classic office chair and a MS-DOS operated computer with a game called Dangerous Dave http://tinyurl.com/k2ylj9z. Whenever I get home early I head on to the office and play the game. Let me tell you what happened one time. I swear I was dying to get home just to play the game because I've got a hint from my mate about how to kill the boss in my game. I came in and saw Dad using the the office chair which I often use when he's not around. So I need to have a seat that time. I look somewhere around the room for a potential seat. I did find some objects like water pail but was afraid of getting it destroyed by my 60 kg butt. HOWEVER, as I was still searching, I found an empty 5 gallon water bottle that was used for water dispenser and a lamp shade foot stand. So I felt that I have a genius plan to execute that time and Indeed was a genius plan. So what I did, I took off the head lamp and cover out of the foot stand and It was exactly as the tall as the gallon bottle. I checked the nozzle of the bottle and the size of the pole of the foot stand. It was again does fit exactly on the nozzle of the bottle! So I did flip the bottle upside down, insert the top of the pole to the bottle's nozzle and voila! I just have to sit on top of the flipped bottle and instant seat for the witty kid! http://imgur.com/NcHFlLg

It hurts to sit in for more than half an hour and it smells because its got stains on it, the back rest also has no padding and sometimes falls off and almost makes me break my back lol, i would love this chair mostly because all i do from when i get home from school to when i go to bed is just play games.

Emptied a drawer out, turned it on its side & balanced on that - until it broke - pva to hold it back together and re-insert into bedside cabinet. (never really been the same since - and either has the drawer)

My pc chair is an old ripped vinyl kitchen chair from the 1980's; it's so uncomfortable I often stick a travel blanket over it to make it more bearable.

  • Lennox says: 15 October 2014, 7:57pm

My current chair is (I think) From the nineties, every time I turn my seat it makes a huge sound like a cat dying, the fake leather has worn away to the rough underlay that hurts every time I put my arms on it and with any movement from side to side the the seat tilts over at an unnatural angle so I have to do a sort of balancing act. A few months ago I went to my grandmas house I set up my PC and monitor, BUT! there was no seat so I tried everything chopping boards, pillows, little stools (the one that you stand on, not poop) to at one point my own PC but after three days of enduring the worst back pain know to human kind I found a heavily deflated yoga ball in their attic, I had to suffer three more days of back pain, but this time I could bounce around like a idiot in the meantime *sigh*

  • Norton says: 15 October 2014, 8:04pm

I once had torn my foot open and couldn't put weight on it. During one gaming session all the healthy foot people had taken the chairs. So I stood one legged, and used a toy sword to take the weight.

I used to use a Large Blue cloth wheeled armchair that was left in a commercial property one of my brothers purchased. It slowly sank on one side until I was sitting at about a 15 degree angle and i had to dispose of it after devolving a persistent fear that it would collapse and the rusty steel centre pole pierce my spine.

My great grandfathers rocking chair ... it was passed down to my mother who kept it in the guest room. Each time a game didn't go as planned I violently swung myself forward until the day the springs gave way ...

i had my 3 friends around to play four player C.O.D MW2 and i could not fit four chairs or a sofa in my room so i used my top and bottom bunk bed. 2 on bottom and two on top as chair space. this also was another to sort the teams out as well each of us having a place to put our drink. There was also so much room food in between each of the two people e.g chips.

Even as a 23 year old man i still use that bunk bed "so much room for activities"

OKAY GUYS N GIRLS! HERES A SHORT STORY OF MY GAMING LIFE~ (Chairs Edition)

About 2 years ago i broke my wooden chair for playing games and then i tend to feel really comfortable sitting on the toilet for about 30mins playing games on iPad etc. So.... one day i was walking home from school and then a household; few blocks from my place, threw out a perfectly fine toilet seat so i cleaned it and started using that and even put some fluffy padding onto it for extra comfort! But.. recently, bugs keep invading it so i had to throw it out... T.T~

ANYWAYS THANKS FOR READING! HAVE A LOVELY DAY~

  • Harold says: 15 October 2014, 9:22pm

we threw out that chair this year in the inorganic rubbish day and been looking for a replacement while currently using a stack of books to sit up on.

I like to think of myself as the king of my house and to get away from the madness I retreat to my throne with my PS Vita in hand. Let me tell you that the Vita is not waterproof. I personally found this out when my throne (toilet by the way) ruined my beloved PS Vita. On that particular day I felt like the king's jester.

My stitches after giving birth were not perhaps the most comfortable thing while sitting down, so.. Well, I'd drag my laptop/3DS into the bathroom, set them up on a dining chair, and the nice, warm bath would be where I would game during those precious restful moments while the baby slept.

Bath gaming is actually quite nice and relaxing.. Just don't drop your console, that's all I can say.

  • Chris says: 15 October 2014, 11:37pm

Probably the worst chair that I have had to use was an absolutely tiny stool that I had to share with my best friend. I later discovered that hardcore gaming is near to impossible when you are constantly smashing elbows with the guy sitting half an inch away from you. That was the most times that I have hurt the soft spot on my elbow in one night, the guys on teamspeak had a great time laughing at us.

  • Brendan says: 16 October 2014, 12:19am

AH! the struggles! I have gone through about 5 chairs in the last couple of years :( funniest substitutes... hmm the Beanbag gave me a mega bad back, the bucket gave me indentations on my butt that were hard to explain to my GF. using cardboard boxes was a good substitute but I should have emptied them first. the top one broke and my butt was assaulted by Tyranids. Tyranids are spikey. VERY spikey. (warhammer 40k models)

It was when I moved houses from Malaysia to here in Auckland, New Zealand, about 4 years ago I think. Got all of our stuff settled in the house but it was night-time by the time it was done and I really wanted to play this PC game that I just bought, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 so I went and grab anything that looks like I can sit on it, a bag of Styrofoam and a few air bags, the one you use to protect your stuff when shipping, for more space to seat. O.o I also use two boxes as a table to hold up my computer so I can see it at eye level. Haha, and in the middle on the night, the air pocket would accidentally pop so I had to close my pc and jump into my mattress before my parents would come into my room. I think at some point, my parents knew it was me, so they took my computer away and I just went to sleep. The very next day though, I got a new table and a plastic chair (which was good enough I guess) so yeah, that's my story.

    Horrible raiding night

Back in the days of the 40 man raiding era i had just got home from work turned the computer on and headed down to get dinner (raiding was starting in 1 hour and i was not prepared). I had just gone to sit down leaned back and snap the base broke, rushing to find another chair i grabbed a deck chair from outside. That was fine i began to raid about 30 minutes into the raid my ass snapped that chair and down i fell coke and food everywhere (plus a wiped raid) i quickly grabed a stool and turned my bed around as a back rest (that did not go well snapped the bedhead leaning against it to hard. So now i have no bedhead no seat and a mess on the floor. The next day i went and got a cheap chair but now the dog and cat have taken over that so im currently using the corner of my bed. Win or Lose i will be getting a DX Racer Chair once the one i want is in stock

  • william says: 16 October 2014, 3:00pm

we had this standard office chair which broke basically because i sat on it to much while gaming and instead of it going up and down it was stuck at the lowest it could go with a metal pole jammed in the foam of the seat because it got too low. so instead of having a metal pole poking my butt while i play i switched to only other chair we had which was a wood 20 year office chair. good times playing battlefield 3 on that.

  • Blair says: 16 October 2014, 8:27pm

We recently moved cities, into a fully furnished apartment. Fully furnished except for a computer chair / desk. The desk I'm using is actually the dining table and the chair is the subwoofer for the TV's AV unit. For bonus points, my 'foot rest' is the subwoofer for my computer speakers.

To say I've felt the bass would be an understatement!

After 13 years in the military my back finally gave up and I've been searching for a chair I could sit at for more than 30mins before I have to stand up. I've been through 9 chairs in the passed 4 years some have broken i.e. wheels falling off, hydraulics stopped working, bolts falling out, armrests snapping off and others have just turned out to add to my back pain. My current chair has a bed pillow and a sofa cushion for padding and bolts protruding out of the armrests and I periodically have to stand while playing games/working at my desk. Could the DXRacer gaming chair be the answer? <3 MightyApe

Ive never had a "gaming chair" as such. Always cheap $30 ones from the warehouse and drag the big lounge chair or dining room table chair over when they get destroyed ( which is far too often ). I have thousands of hours racked up via steam + other games and yet still suffer daily from a sore back due to the lack of a decent chair. I have been looking in depth at these chairs but unfortunatly outside of my price range. This is the closest chance I have to owning one of these bad boys :)

I don't game, my teenager does. I got him an office chair to use but every time he lent back it made weird noises- turns out the screws broke apart and the plate underneath came off. Got another one - the wheels underneath broke so he was on an angle, third time lucky - the vinyl on the chair gets all weird and sticky in summer so it has to have a towel on it. So now unless he is playing a racing game he resorts to lying on his bed - he stuck the TV up on bits of four by two to get it high enough.

  • Casper says: 18 October 2014, 8:54pm

My now ex-girlfriend was very much into sexual SM play, and it would turn her on very much to be used as human furniture. At first I found it kinda weird since my fetishes and kinks weren't as radical as hers but I tried it and ended up using her as a chair whilst I played games. She got off on it quite easily and whilst she was being subservient, she would get very wet and start moaning to the point where I would have to mute my microphone.

I use my flat oil heater as a chair when I play guitar hero drums.its the perfect height but not the comfiest chair in the world :(

  • Dylan says: 19 October 2014, 7:59am

been using a dining room chair for the past year but before that i'd have to keep buying boxes of beer because i was using a few boxes stacked up, and my brother and father would keep stealing the bottles without my knowledge so i'd come home to a half empty "chair"

  • Billy says: 19 October 2014, 8:59am

We have upcycled shipping pallets with a foam squab mattress as a gaming "couch" in the kids' "xbox room" (carpeted area of the carshed)...
This old man could definitely use something more ergonomic as he puts the kids to task on the FIFA and the BF..

Hubby used to sit at our sons spongebob table and chair set in front of the TV in our lounge to play call of duty :) even have a photo somewhere !

A bean bag with a plank of wood over me to put my mouse and keyboard on, no chair and no desk. uncomfortable times.

  • Emma says: 19 October 2014, 10:26am

About 20 pillows to make them tall and hard enough to sit on and my PS4 and TV sat on top of a small speaker (TV sat on the PS4, but it's a small TV anyway, no harm done :p)

The driving seat from my dad's old sports car.. He wasnt happy.

  • scott says: 19 October 2014, 12:25pm

My old chair broke so i used a half broken stool and it was not good for my back ill tell you that

  • Clifford says: 19 October 2014, 1:19pm

I finally got a "proper" computer chair with wheels, and adjustable height. What the person I brought it from failed to tell me was that it had to be locked vertically. So the first day I sat on it the damn thing tilts back so fast that the only thing keeping me from being on the ground was my toes knocking into the top of a nearby table, leaving me choosing between just falling over, or cramping from the strain of holding my body weight by toes

  • Erica says: 19 October 2014, 2:32pm

The box from the microwave, only box strong enough to hold up a person- literally didn't have anything else to sit on besides the floor!

  • Angela says: 19 October 2014, 4:56pm

I stacked 12 books, balanced and hoped for the best. :'D

I've had to use a beer keg with a pillow on top.

  • Callum says: 19 October 2014, 6:59pm

My old chair broke so I lent a ladder against a wall and put some pillows of one of the rungs to make it more comfortable.

  • Laurie says: 19 October 2014, 7:01pm

When I had a broken leg, they put a massive heavy plaster cast on my leg. It was like lifting weights every time I wanted to move.

The problem was that I couldn't get the cast wet in the shower and I didn't have any equipment so.. I did what I could and moved an old washing basket into the shower and sat on that while I rested my leg on bucket outside of the shower.

Anyway, the TLDR; version is that washing baskets aren't designed for a 60kg person to sit so I fell through and the top half of me got stuck inside the broken washing basket while my legs where still stuck outside the shower.
I would say that was probably one of the lowest points of my life.
Luckily,my partner was there to rescue me. :)

Y'know those little red tricycles you sometimes see in the old war movies before the dad leaves the daughter for war? We have one.... It's rusted as all hell and its missing three out of a total three wheels but it works... that was a lie. My old computer chair got stolen away from me and I had nothing but a little wheel-less trike xD Mean saddle ass after playing tekkit all day!

  • Calvin says: 19 October 2014, 10:24pm

Since my desk chair was "stolen" from me for guests at dinner, I had to substitute for a small wooden shelf which had in it my Disks Games/DVDs etc. for my PC. The problem was that when I wanted to lie back into my chair (which I did often with my desk chair), I fell over and broke the shelf and hit my head hard on the wall :/

  • Devon says: 19 October 2014, 11:05pm

well most times i just put my laptop on the floor as it is a good surface for my mouse when I game, but when my mates are round we turn one of the couches upside down, put our laptops on the underside of the couch, get some giant beanbags and have LAN matches for hours!

  • Alex says: 19 October 2014, 11:21pm

My parents used to have an office chair that had a floral pattern on it, so it was like sitting on one of those floral shirts american tourists wear.

  • Randolph says: 20 October 2014, 10:40am

Casually looting in borderlands and my chair broke. Used empty protein tubs, empty mighty ape boxes and a pillow.

  • Derick says: 20 October 2014, 10:52am

Used an old Toyota Corolla car seat for a while.

  • Michael says: 20 October 2014, 3:18pm

Sometimes when I poop and I sit on my current chair my butt hurts and feels really uncomfortable. (I'm sure a lot of people experience this) I believe this chair would provide the best conditions for my butt to feel great whilst getting out of bronze.

We were renovating our house at the time...

We had our whole house renovated and all my stuff was moved into storage except the essentials (My Laptop ;) included).

So everything in my room was taken away in to storage including my desk i gamed on and my chair. So as the toilet was being renovated they replaced the toilet so i had a brillent plan to take the toilet and Lukeitout. I put the toilet in my room and nailed a few holes into seat (Plastic) and added a cusion.

    My master piece was made T H E U L T I M A T E G A M I N G C H A I R.

  • Lance says: 7 November 2014, 4:29pm

Ive used anything from old car seats, a motorcycle helmet (that was far from comfortable) and the floor when I don't have anything.

  • Rachelle says: 7 November 2014, 4:35pm

I use either a laz-yboy chair (not ideal) or a beanbag (worse) simply because that's all there is for the Xbox 360. If on the PC it's an old office chair that is well and truly past its best.

  • Mike says: 7 November 2014, 4:37pm

I once used a milk crate until the day it snapped, which was a very sad day

  • Oscar says: 7 November 2014, 5:21pm

    A bucket!

  • Joe says: 7 November 2014, 5:24pm

yay for mighty ape and dxracer.

as for the chair... well... usually I just grab the chairs in the dining room, though they are old and broken and covered in our late cat's hair. other than that, I've had to use cardboxes that I got from ordering GF's presents, when all the chairs are needed for guests. Not much funny experiences, just that it's a pain for a relatively tall guy like myself, using mouse and keyboard on the table top (not a proper computing table) while sitting on chairs that's just not tall enough, it's a struggle :P

An ancient wooden chair, not good for 4hr+ gaming sessions on the pc.

  • Bryce says: 7 November 2014, 7:39pm

One time I was playing WoW and I was in the middle of a raid when I needed to go to the toilet (Number two). I was using my dad's PC which was in our laundry room which had a spare toilet. So you guess it, I dragged the PC desk around next to the toilet so I could play whilst taking care of business. It was legit as.

  • Taylor says: 7 November 2014, 8:08pm

I didn't have a desk or a chair so I used my bed. I know have a desk just require a chair and my god what a beautiful specimen that chair is.

  • Susan says: 7 November 2014, 8:13pm

Currently its the antique side table (which we are 'looking after'), with steering wheel attached! Not sure what owner would think of it being used that way!

  • Mark says: 7 November 2014, 8:29pm

  • josh says: 7 November 2014, 10:01pm

  • Cameron says: 7 November 2014, 11:05pm

I sit on a spare bed and use a piece of plywood as a table top

  • David says: 7 November 2014, 11:11pm

Since we ran out of chairs because of a party I had to use a bouncy exercise ball.

It had its ups and downs literally too. While playing Tom Clanxy's HAWX, I could simulate the g forces that I would experience while in game. It felt so good tossing around with my jet. Realism! Oh yeah!

Meanwhile at extreme "g's" the ball would pop and slide out and basically feel a hard ejection. gg

  • Jason says: 8 November 2014, 11:55am

My current chair is a old dining room chair that has been given some very basic d.i.y to make semi useable but it still very fragile

  • Christopher says: 8 November 2014, 12:24pm

Growing up with 3 siblings made it difficult to have dedicated gaming time without being attacked, having the Gameboy taken off you or being dobbed in that you weren't doing your chores. Whilst climbing trees in the forrest next to us i found one with a large nook, 3 metres off the ground that was like a really comfortable throne. I nicknamed it my gaming throne and took my gameboy there to play games and no-one found me. It was awesome.

  • danny says: 8 November 2014, 2:24pm

When we were moving into our new home when i was young the desks and chairs were the last pieces of furniture arrive. We got there a week before those arrived, so i had to setup my laptop on the kitchen bench and use one of those big exercise balls as a chair. The fun bit was the fact that i could bounce up and down every time i got a new highscore or killing spree when i was gaming, but my annoying brother would sometimes kick the ball from right under me so i'd fall flat on my butt. The ball would then bounce off the wall and into me for double pownage. Good times.

  • Adam says: 8 November 2014, 3:45pm

Once back when I was starting gaming on my first PC, I had an old hand-me-down office chair that was definitely showing its age. Then one day, the chair finally gave out and dropped me on the floor. In desperate need of a seat, I had to rush into work and borrow one of the empty milk crates for a good few days. Needless to say it wasn't the most comfortable of chairs, and I was glad when I found another old chair to use on TradeMe.

  • Anthony says: 8 November 2014, 10:32pm

Iv been through many a gaming chair in my time from computer chairs to bean bags to the couch. But in all honesty the worst experience was a ottoman. Most uncomfortable seat with no back rest and felt like I was sitting on concrete, would not recommend a ottoman to play games on!!!

  • Scott says: 8 November 2014, 11:40pm

Used my bed for a while. Problem is, I always sit down closer to the edge on one side than the other (its a king single size). Ended up making my mattress sort of lop-sided, making going to sleep a bit of a balancing act. Had to flip my mattress and wear down the other side for a while to balance things out. Now there's a sort of uniform ditch going across the width of my mattress, but hey, it still does the job.

  • Miles says: 9 November 2014, 1:48pm

I used packing crates. we had packed all our stuff to go to NZ, we just had my laptop out to take on the plane. So all I had to sit on were packed up boxes. Not the most comfortable!

  • Darren says: 9 November 2014, 9:27pm

I had a pillow from the plane that I boarded on. I used it to sit on it to play on my computer and since we have no furniture or even anything, i used the floor as the "table" so I had to like bend over while playing and after like 4 hours of gaming, my back made a crack that a healthy 16 years old should not make.

  • Rajan says: 9 November 2014, 11:23pm
