Description

This book, aimed at researchers, practitioners and advanced students will bring the concepts of time and frequency domain reflectometry together, helping the reader develop a detailed understanding not only of each method, but of the relationships between them, and how they can each be used to their best advantage. The authors include the mathematical details of each method, as well as how they are implemented in hardware, and the analysis techniques commonly used. They will show how these methods are applied in real-world applications, each of which has its own unique challenges that are rarely discussed in basic literature. Also, they aim to give detailed insight on remaining challenges and directions for future research, making the book appealing to both those who are working to apply reflectometry, but also those who are working to extend these methods to new regimes.

Author Biography:

Dr. Cynthia Furse is the Associate Vice President for Research at the University of Utah and Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Dr. Furse’s research focuses on imbedded antennas and sensors in complex environments, such as telemetry systems in the human body, and sensors for location of faults on aging aircraft wiring. She is recognized internationally for development of a system for on-board intermittent electrical fault location for aging aircraft wiring during flight to prevent in-flight fires and loss of signal. This research has been commercialized through LiveWire Test Labs, a spin off company from the University of Utah, for which Dr. Furse is a founder and Chief Scientist. Dr. Furse teaches electromagnetics, wireless communication, computational electromagnetics, microwave engineering, and antenna design. She has received numerous research and teaching awards including the Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology and the Harriett B. Rigas award, which is a prestigious IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) medal for excellence in teaching. She is a Fellow of the IEEE and the National Academy of Inventors.
