Author Biography:

Michael H. Long is Professor of Second Language Acquisitionin the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at theUniversity of Maryland. Recent publications include The Handbookof Second Language Acquisition, co-edited with CatherineDoughty (Wiley-Blackwell, 2003), Second Language NeedsAnalysis (2005), and Problems in Second LanguageAcquisition (2007). Catherine J. Doughty is Senior Research Scientist andSecond Language Acquisition Area Director at the Center for theAdvanced Study of Language at the University of Maryland, and is anaffiliate Professor of Second Language Acquisition at theUniversity of Maryland. She is co-editor (with Michael Long) ofThe Handbook of Second Language Acquisition(Wiley-Blackwell, 2003).
