Author Biography:

Alessandro Duranti is Distinguished Professor ofAnthropology and Dean of Social Sciences at the University ofCalifornia, Los Angeles. He is also a Fellow of the AmericanAcademy of Arts and Sciences and past President of the Society forLinguistic Anthropology. For Wiley-Blackwell he has editedLinguistic Anthropology: A Reader (2nd Edition,2009), A Companion to Linguistic Anthropology (2006) andKey Terms in Language and Culture (2001). Elinor Ochs is UCLA Distinguished Professor ofAnthropology and Applied Linguistics, Director of the UCLA Centerfor Language, Interaction, and Culture, and a Fellow of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences. Selected books includeFast-Forward Family: Home, Work, and Relationships inMiddle Class America (2013), Life at Home in the21st Century: 32 Families Open Their Doors(2012), Linguaggio e Cultura: Lo Sviluppo delle CompetenzeCommunicative (2006), and LivingNarrative (2001). Bambi B. Schieffelin is Collegiate Professor andProfessor of Anthropology at New York University.
