Description

One Trip Can Change Everything

The Chaperone takes place amid the backdrop of the tumultuous times of the early 1920s. The life of a Kansas woman (Elizabeth McGovern, Downton Abbey) is forever changed when she chaperones a beautiful and talented 15-year-old dancer named Louise Brooks (Haley Lu Richardson, Law & Order) to New York for the summer. One of them is eager to fulfil her destiny of dance and movie stardom; the other hopes to unearth the mysteries of her past.

Critic Reviews:

  • Norma's story, as handmaid to greatness, inevitably ends up feeling like we've explored a pleasant tributary, rather than the mainstream. – Sydney Morning Herald
  • The movie does have an intelligent TV feel in its technique, with its focus on actors' faces and on acting moments that can be easily seen, even on a small screen. – San Francisco Chronicle
  • The Chaperone' is a story about a woman who is changing alongside a changing country, making discoveries about herself in late middle age. – Women's Voices for Change
