Description

Supportive Schools highlights, through 15 selected case studies, the attempts being made by teachers and other professionals to meet the varied needs of pupils in mainstream and special schools. The emphasis of the book is on providing practical examples which illustrate effective intervention strategies for use in particular situations. The case studies, all based on real situations, explore such diverse areas as diruptive behaviour, dyslexia, child abuse, deafness and epilepsy, as well discussing the wider issues of personal and social education, disability and under-achievement. The book also provides suggestions for in-service training. Each case study is followed by a variety of supporitve information and materials, ideal for use in pre- and in-service discussion and training sessions. As many of the strategies require a multi-professional approach, the book will also be invaluable to a wide range of health and welfare personnel.
