When the boys are called to serve up in Vietnam, Matt and Leroy evade the draft, but Jack submits voluntarily. As the years pass, the war takes its toll (not only on the battlefield), and their ebullience dims. As directed by authentic American maverick Milius (director of Conan The Barbarian, writer of Apocalypse Now), Big Wednesday is a fascinating chronicle of friendships and lifestyles in transition that captures some of the most spectacular surfing footage on film.
