Plays out like a badly thought out fanfiction, with macguffins and nonsensical plot devices (This coming from a long-time Trek fan) which put the characters right where the storyteller wants them to be, but not where it makes sense for them to be. A chance ion storm turns a brief retrieval operation into an overly stretched dune buggy chase sequence. An attempt to cash-in on the emotional shock of Spock's death in STII ends up tripping over itself repeatedly in Data's final sacrifice, and subsequent transference of his Katra… I'm sorry, “neural engrams” into his newly discovered sibling android.
It's a pity that the best of the Trek series ended on such a flimsy and forgettable note.
