"Fun for kids of all ages"
4 stars"

Very funny and entertaining movie not at all what I had expected from the trailer. An all star vocal cast with a for the most part well written and clever script. Steve Carell shows his comic genius and steals the show as Hammy the hyperactive squirrel. Hidden in the humour is a rather pointed little message about suburbia and modern life;

RJ: That is an S.U.V; Humans ride in then because they are slowly losing their ability to walk. Penny: Jeepers, its so big! Lou: How many humans fit in there? RJ: Usually, one.

This movie is laugh out loud funny in places and will have the older kids delighted. Some of the jokes may go straight over the head of the younger children. But that is in keeping with modern animated movies such as The Incredibles. After watching you will find yourself quoting the numerous one-liners.

Ben Folds songs are well used and cleverly written, fitting with the fun and cheeky mood of the movie.

Highly recommended for a good Saturday afternoon movie with the family or if you simply want a light hearted laugh.

Description

Over The Hedge

Taking back the neighborhood… One snack at a time.

Spring has sprung and Verne (voiced by Garry Shandling) and his woodland friends awaken from their long winter’s nap to discover that a tall green “thing” has mysteriously cropped up right through the middle of their home. Enter RJ (Bruce Willis), an opportunistic raccoon, who explains that the world beyond the hedge is the “gateway to the good life” where peculiar creatures called humans live to eat, rather than eat to live.

Suspicious and even a little jealous of RJ, the ever-cautious turtle, Verne wants to keep his blended family safely on their side of the hedge. But, proving the adage that one man’s garbage is another man’s – or rather, animal’s – treasure, the manipulative RJ tries to convince the woodland band that there is little to fear and everything to gain from their over-indulgent neighbours. Eventually, RJ and Verne form an unlikely friendship as they learn to co-exist with – and even exploit – this strange new world called suburbia.
