Description

There is the great Maya civilisation that we know and another that we are just discovering.

The period we know flourished between AD 250 and 900 and left magnificent cities like Tikal and Palenque scattered across southern Mexico and Central America. Dawn of the Maya is about an earlier chapter in Maya history. One more grand and complex than ever thought possible. Its revelations are momentous; El Mirador, a gigantic city hidden in the New World and home to a massive pyramid rivalling those of Egypt; an exquisite mural painted around the time of Christ, arguably one of the most important Maya discoveries in fifty years; a carved mask of a sun god, ten feet tall, preserved in astonishing detail.

This is the final frontier of knowledge about the ancient Maya. As archaeologists cross it, they are entering the kingdoms at the dawn of Maya time.
