Description

The Glenbogle estate, ancestral Highland home of the MacDonald family is facing financial ruin. When the Laird's son Archie is persuaded to return, he vows to revive the estate - a decision that affects the lives of all in this close-knit community.

Over seven series, Monarch of The Glen follows the loves, conflicts and schemes of the MacDonald family, their neighbours and employees in one of the most popular dramas ever screened on British television.

Hector (Richard Briers) - As cantankerous as he is eccentric, the former Laird of Glenbogle stands by his family - even after his death…

Molly (Susan Hampshire) - The death of her husband signals a time of change, but she continues to be a tower of strength and to attract a series of suitors.

Archie (Alastair Mackenzie) - Does the new Laird realise what he has taken on: crumbling estate, rival clans, avaricious Americans and stormy romance?

Paul (Lloyd Owen) - When Hector's illegitimate son shows up, it sends shockwaves through Glenbogle. But will he be ready to step up to the role as the new Laird?

Lexie (Dawn Steele) - Transformed from feisty housekeeper to Lady Laird, Lexie proves she can run the Glenbogle estate with, and without, Archie.

Golly (Alexander Morton) - The Glenbogle gamekeeper is the strong, silent type - but still waters run deep and this proud guardian of the pipes has some surprises in store.

Lord kilwillie (Julian Fellowes) - Over the years, Kilwillie has been both friend and foe to the MacDonalds. But after Hector's demise, can he persuade Molly to be more than just friends?
