Author Biography:

I grew up on an organic farm in Umbria, Italy and was home-educated until I went to university in London aged 19. Along the way I worked for Sainsbury's Head Office developing new products and packaging; for Roehampton University, mentoring student entrepreneurs; I undertook a Master's degree focused on innovation; and worked as a business consultant offering mentoring and Government grants to entrepreneurs. I now live in London with my husband and two children, looking after the kids and writing. I write historical novels as well as non-fiction books and articles for magazines. In the autumn of 2016 I'll be starting a Ph.D. in Creative Writing at the University of Surrey. This book was written while I was Writer in Residence at the British Library.
