"Good resource for schools"

Bought this to use for Antarctica unit at school. Shows lots of great parts of Antarctica-woud advise teachers preview it before showing children as we skipped a couple of parts as PG rating.

"Interesting but lacks detail."

Some good cinematography and stories but a lack of detail and depth left me wanting more. A nice superficial documentary but would not appeal to educators or enthusiasts.

Description

What's going on in Antarctica? What are people doing there, and who's paying? Ice is a new five-part series about the explorers, history, environment and animals – the reality of life in Antarctica.

Following his adventures in the series"Off The Rails", Marcus Lush had his feet up for a well-earned cuppa when the call came to tackle an epic experience. A month in Antarctica. The result is ICE, TV ONE's fascinating five part series about the explorers, history, environment and animals – the reality of life in a continent that is truly unique.

“Everything surprised me, I knew the history would be fascinating, but what really stunned me was the landscape and the wildlife,” says Lush.

ICE delivers more than just pretty pictures of penguins and whales – there's a dash of environmental awareness and stories of survival and courage. It's about Scott Base but with plenty of time spent in the field in ice caves and tents, each presenting their own challenges. The show also investigates and celebrates New Zealand's many connections with Antarctica – connections that go back over a century, connections that were particularly strong during the heroic era and those that are still strong between Christchurch and McMurdo Base and Scott Base on Ross Island.
