The term 'vachana' refers to a rhythmic prose type of composition in the Kannada Language. This book exclusively deals with the vachanas of Basavanna and his twelfth century contemporaries. These vachanas depict the Sharana Philosophy and Practice. In the twelfth century, the vachanas were widely used to propagate spiritual knowledge and the right way of life among the masses. The vachanas were simple in form, and were in the everyday language of the people of Karnataka in India. Extracting information from about 293 vachanas seems to have resulted in the unbiased essence of the Sharana Philosophy and practices depicted in the vachanas. Kannada vachanas have been included in this book (November 2023).
