"Lazy and cheap in every way."
2 stars"

For a start, this is a very ugly looking animated film. You can tell it was made on a VERY tight budget, with very little love or attention paid to it. It looks cheaper than many animated tv shows. As for the film itself, its a movie of two halves. The second half is actually pretty decent, and the film does a decent attempt at bringing what is a pretty.. gritty and ‘nasty’ story to film… but the first half is woefully poor, badly handled, and cringeworthy. It is as if the director and the writer were only comfortable in making animations for children, and when they was handed a much darker subject matter, they was simply unable of giving it the gravitas it needed to make it amazing; instead opting for a very simplistic tone with amateurish writing aimed at a more younger audience. Extremely disappointing film.

The whole Batgirl thing at the start ruins one of the best DC Stories ever. We already know who batgirl is, we don't need a new backstory and I understand her relations with Bruce were subtext of BTAS BUT they ruin his motivation for the ACTUAL story for the lay-people who haven't read it.

Forget the first 28minutes and then it's 5 Stars

Description

Batman: The Killing Joke

Based on the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name, Batman: The Killing Joke takes a journey into the dark psyche of the Clown Prince of Crime – from his humble beginnings as a struggling comedian to his fateful encounter with Batman that changes both of their lives forever. Years later, and now escaped from Arkham Asylum, The Joker devises a plan to prove that one bad day can make anyone as insane as he is – setting his sights on Commissioner Gordon.

It’s up to the Dark Knight to put a stop to The Joker’s latest scheme and save one of Gotham City’s finest. Following a gripping prologue introducing Barbara Gordon’s heroic adventures alongside Batman as Batgirl, Batman: The Killing Joke stays true to the authentic tale that has held fans’ imaginations for nearly three decades – spotlighting the birth of a Super-Villain, the fortitude of a Super Hero and the punchline that will leave you speechless.

  • " Odd deviations from the source material aside, the inordinately talented folks at DC Animation deliver another great film. " – Zachary Kennedy
  • " Break out the chapter select function and zoom past the Batgirl subplot and this is one of Warner Bros. Animation's best efforts. " – Jeffrey Lyles
  • " Mark Hamill voices The Joker again and his work is exceptional, even when he sings. " – Oswaldo Betancourt Lozano
