Assassin's Creed.. where to begin. Okay, well let's start with the most obvious stand-out point: the graphics. They're just simply spectacular. There have been a few games released this year that have pushed the boundries of what was thought possible on next-gen consoles.. and most of them have been with the PS3. I'm talking Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future, Heavenly Sword, etc. Now out of all of these games I really cant decide which one is better… but no matter, you get the point: the graphics are ground-breaking.
Gameplay wise Assassin's Creed really could have benifited from a little more work. Dont get me wrong – its cool running around entire recreated cities from the middle-ages and being able to use almost all buildings as latches. And it is fun jumping from rooftop to rooftop all the while having 20 guards chasing you. It's fun. But what was missing were the smaller details. The assassinations. The dev team really could have taken a page from the Hitman series when it came to this area. What I mean by that is there is simply no insentive to make the assassionation worth-while. There are no stats, nothing. As long as you kill the target and escape then you pass… and after playing the game once there is really no need to do it again.
In conclusion the game is good.. it's certainly not Game of the Year worthy – but pretty close. The main problem with this game is unfortunately the storyline. It just plain sucks, and so does the ending (if you can call it an ending). Anyway, check it out for yourself.
