On the far reaches of the North Slope, a body is found on the ice flows. Although the locals of Point Lay, Alaska want nothing more than to find the killer, Sergeant Rae Pearce of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation meets with more dead ends and closed lips than anticipated. She reluctantly enlists the assistance of Koda Bolt, by all appearances nothing more than an Alaskan Bush pilot. An attempt on Rae and Koda's lives lead them on a foray against man and beast all along the shores of the Chukchi Sea from Point Lay to Utqiagvik. The pursuit of justice draws Koda back into a world he'd hoped to escape while opening the eyes of Rae to the beautiful wonder of the North Slope and all who live there.
