IÂ really wasn't expecting much out of Zombieland. IÂ thought Shaun of the
Dead was truly awful when it came out. It was just plain unfunny. However,
Zombieland is the movie that Shaun of the Dead never was.
The best thing about Zombieland is that it doesn't take itself seriously. And
if you want to enjoy it neither should you. If you want a serious movie you're
looking in the wrong place.
One of the aspects of Zombielad which really clicked was the characters. To
put it simply they just really really work well. Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee
is absolutely fantastic. He brings his own unique sense of humour to the movie
and it works extremely well. IÂ won't spoil anything but his final scene had me
in hysterics.
Abigail Breslin was the other standout performance. She portrayed the young
girl who grew up very fast role extremely well. There's always that slight hint
of longing in her though and you get the impression that she would have liked a
normal childhood.
What Zombieland comes down to is that it's pure fun. Buy it, rent it,
I dont care. Just make sure you watch it at least once. It's fairly short but
massively rewatchable. The only downside is that I'll never be able to take a
zombie movie seriously ever again.
