Author Biography:

Willa Cather (1873 - 1947) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American author who achieved recognition for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains. At age 9, Cather moved with her family from Virginia to frontier Nebraska, where from age 10 she lived in the village of Red Cloud. She grew up there among the immigrants from Europe - Swedes, Bohemians, Russians, and Germans - who were breaking the land on the Great Plains. While in college at the University of Nebraska, Cather became a regular contributor to the Nebraska State Journal. She graduated in 1894 with a B.A. in English.
