Description

Yorkie Boys told of the adventures of children growing up in the 1950s in the Yorkshire Dales. Now meet Yorkie Boys and Girls, which follows the kids as they start to grow up and learn about the realities of life. Meet once again with Norma Greensit, who terrorises the boys with her stories of a fabled land. Meet Graham, the school naughty boy who uses forbidden words. Then there are the dreaded Erkies, the neighbours from hell. A new school brings Janferie a modern free spirit, and Stan a new best friend, as well as a host of unforgettable characters, among them the formidable Miss 'Torture' Wrack. The Yorkie Boys begin to hear about something called sex. There is Claudette, the school beauty and object of a Yorkie Boy's desire. There are older women - Mrs Caizzone, the mother who smells of flowers, and Wendy, the Sunday School teacher, who causes a religious ferment in our Yorkie Boys. Above it all looms the dark cloud of the 11+ exam, when friendships will be tested and broken and lives will be changed for ever. Yorkie Boys and Girls will bring back memories to those old enough to remember those golden days, and for the young, will give a glimpse of what their parents and grandparents went through in tough times.
