Description

This book covers Western National in the period from 1983-2003, looking at the changes in livery and operation of the company, which was transitioning from a part of the National Bus Company to that of a private operation. The author has been a prolific photographer of buses for many years, covering many areas of Britain, chasing different types of vehicle and the services they run on. This book concentrates on Western National, looking at its operations during an interesting period, when liveries were changing and the company's corporate identity was moving on from a nationalised concern to that of a newly privatised group member. AUTHOR: Andrew Bartlett was born in Leicester in 1951. His interest in public transport was cultivated at an early age. He worked for the Inland Revenue/HMRC for 38 years, latterly as a management consultant. Working in London and holidaying in Devon for many years has (he is pleased to say) given him more buses to write about than just those of Leicestershire. Early retirement beckoned in 2007, since when he has set crosswords for the Financial Times, and has become an avid amateur genealogist. He is a member of the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust, for whom he has undertaken various research projects, and is a regular contributor to its newsletter. Married to Debbie, he lives near Market Harborough. 200 colour illustrations and system map
