Description

Water, Land, and Forest Susceptibility and Sustainability, Volume 2: Insight Towards Management, Conservation and Ecosystem Services brings an interdisciplinary perspective to solving complex problems in sustainability, utilizing the latest research and technologies, and includes case studies that emphasize the applications of remote sensing, GIS, and image processing for addressing the current state and future needs to achieve sustainability. As forests, land, and water are among the most precious resources on earth, emphasizing the need to conserve them for future generations and, of course, a safe and sustainable planet. The assessment of the susceptibility of all these three precious resources must therefore be addressed to inform their sustainable management. This second volume focuses on environmental management, conservation, and ecosystem services and provides information on forest, land, and water resources, presenting in integrated manner various aspects of their characterization, susceptibility, and sustainability.

Author Biography:

Dr. Uday Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor at Bhatter College in Dantan, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, India, and an Applied Geographer with a Post-Graduate in Applied Geography from Utkal University and a Doctorate in Applied Geography from Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Odisha. He has contributed to a number of research papers that have been published in reputable national and international publications, as well as edited book volumes. He has also organized (as the convener) a Faculty Development Program on "Modern ways of teaching and advanced research methods," which was funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Urban Planning, Social and Human Geography, Applied Geomorphology, Hazards & Disasters, Environmental Issues, Land Use and Rural Development are some of his research interests. The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) of the Government of West Bengal, India, financed his research. He has worked as a reviewer for a number of international publications. Dr. Uday Chatterjee is currently the lead editor of the Springer Special Issue (S.I) on Urbanism, Smart Cities, and Modelling. Biswajeet Pradhan is a distinguished professor at UTS School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is an international expert in data-driven modelling and a pioneer in combining spatial modelling with statistical and machine learning models for natural hazard predictions including landslides. He has a track record of outstanding research outputs, with over 600 journal articles. He is a highly interdisciplinary researcher with publications across 12 areas, listed as having ‘Excellent’ international collaboration status. He has been a Highly Cited Researcher for five consecutive years (2016-2020) and ranks fifth in the field of Geological & Geoenvironmental Engineering. Dr. Suresh Kumar is Scientist–SG & Group Head for the Agriculture & Soils Department at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Govt. of India, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He has 27 years of experience in applications of geospatial technologies in natural resource management with specialization in soil resource management, land degradation, and watershed management. He has published more than 50 research papers and 7 book chapters. He has attended several International Conferences and National Seminar/ Symposium and delivered invited lead talk in the seminar/symposium. He has also carried out several research projects as PI / Co-I, such as: FAO-AEZ based Agricultural Land Use Planning; National Soil Carbon Pool Assessment, Soil Carbon Dynamic (SCD) Studies, Mountain Ecosystem Processes and Services: Studying impact of Soil Erosion and Nutrient Loss and its impact on Soil Quality; Digital soil mapping using environmental covariates for mountainous region. Dr. Sourav Saha PhD is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Saha is an early career scientist who recently completed his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati, USA. He also taught several Geology courses as an adjunct faculty member at Northern Kentucky University, USA. His research interests are focused on the use of geomorphic, geochronologic, remote sensing, and sedimentary tools to quantify surface processes, landscape evolution, paleoseismic, and paleoclimatic changes. His goal is to understand the dynamic interaction between climate, tectonics, and landscapes, especially in environmentally sensitive regions. He uses and develops a variety of geochronometers, especially luminescence and cosmogenic surface exposure dating techniques. He is also a member of the Geological Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, the American Quaternary Association, and several other international organizations. Dr. Mohammad Zakwan PhD is presently working as an Assistant Professor in Maulana Azad National University, Hyderabad, India. He has published numerous papers and has a demonstrated history of working in Water Resource Engineering. He has been serving as an editorial board member and reviewer for various journals. His research interests include modelling of infiltration, modelling river water quality, sediment rating curves, stage discharge curves, computation of effective discharge and dominant discharge, climate change, trend analysis in water resources, river engineering, hydraulics, and hydrology of rivers. Dr. Mohammad Zakwan was a recipient of Gold medals during his M.Tech and B.Tech. He was awarded MHRD GATE scholarship and CSIR NET JRF scholarship for his M.Tech and PhD, respectively.
