Description

Vowels First describes a different method for teaching students how to sound out words. It can be useful to tutors, parents and teachers who are working with students who are having a hard time learning how to read. Part One explains why this needed, how it was developed and how it works. Part Two contains word lists that are to be used when working with these students. A chart to be used when applying the Vowels First procedure and pictures that accompany the word lists are provided. Part Three applies Vowels First procedures to learning syllabication.

Author Biography:

Suzanne is a retired reading teacher. During the years of teaching reading to students who were not keeping up with their classmates, she realized that there must be something wrong with the way she was teaching these students. After many years analyzing this problem, she came to the conclusion that the problem lay with how the students were first presented with the problem of decoding words. She devised a different way to teach students how to sound out words. In this book, she describes the process that these students need to be taught, provides lists of words for practice and pictures to go along with these lists. She has been successful with students that were labeled as trouble makers, not really trying or just plain lazy. These students were able to continue their schooling and keep up with their fellow classmates.
