Description

Voltaire the dog loves traveling and in his short lifetime has done so quite extensively. When his parents decided to move to the south of France a few years ago, Voltaire was excited -- his visions of the blue Mediterranean, picturesque villas and alpine slopes were about to come true! He lived there for three years and loved the experience, especially as dogs are much loved in France and are allowed almost everywhere including restaurants, trains, and hotels! Although Voltaire was very pleased to be living in this gentle climate with its fig, mimosa, and orange trees, its fragrant herbs, its beautiful Riviera and its legendary cuisine, it was always his dream to visit the -City of Light- -- Paris. He had often heard stories of its beauty, monumental architecture, history, and art. And after much begging on his part, his parents decided to take him there -- in the glorious springtime! Come along with Voltaire as he experiences the beautiful sites of Paris and learn about the city along the way!

Author Biography

Allan du Manoir de Juaye is the grandson of a French aristocrat, Count Richard Joseph Jules le Chanoine du Manoir de Juaye, who emigrated to Canada from France. Family ancestors played interesting and influential roles in French history. One of Allan's ancestors, Baron Pierre-Paul Riquet de Bonrepos, was responsible in the second half of the 17th century for building the Canal du Midi which links the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea. Another ancestor, Count Jean-Louis le Chanoine du Manoir de Juaye, escaped France to avoid being imprisoned during the French revolution and ended up in the then-Republic of Weimar where he taught French to Goethe's children. Allan studied linguistics and speaks four languages. He lives in both Canada and the south of France.
