Description

After Glass from Finland in the Bischofberger Collection, The Glass of Architects. Vienna 1900-1937, Ettore Sottsass. The Glass, Maurice Marinot. The Glass 1911-1934, this new volume is dedicated to the Studio Glass and investigates the international development of glass in the 20th century. The multi-year cultural project Le Stanze del Vetro is promoted by Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Pentagram Stiftung for the study and enhancement of glass art in the 20th and 21st centuries. Published on the occasion of the exhibition and edited by Tina Oldknow and William Warmus, former curators of modern and contemporary glass at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, Venice and American Studio Glass highlights the variety of art and design in contemporary American glass, presenting impressive and stimulating, traditional and innovative works. Gathering together 155 outstanding glass vessels, sculptures and installations created by 60 American and Venetian artists, Venice and American Studio Glass is the first book that closely examines the influences of traditional Venetian glass-working techniques, as well as the Venetian aesthetic, on American Studio Glass made from the 1960s to the present.
