Description

Humorous, informative, and educational "Variety is the Spice of Life" is dedicated to my late Father, Ted Loveday, whose unfortunate andsuspicious death in 1958 occurred when I was 14 years of age.Responsible for building the Scenery for many thousands of Stage Shows, including several thousand 'West End' of London Shows, in those 14 years, often unrealised by me, he taught me a vast amount ofknowledge about the Theatre and about Theatrical Scenery and how to design and build it; he taught me a considerable amount of knowledge about his Scenery-building firm of Brunskill and Loveday Limited and its constituent parts of John Brunskill Limited and of Loveday and Higson; he introduced me to the mechanics of many 'West End' and Provincial Theatres, and he introduced me to a vast number of his Theatrical friends and acquaintances. Not only does all that feature in this book but also my Mother's grossly poverty-stricken childhood in the early 20th century Scottish coalfields and my Father's affluent childhood in London's Theatreland also play their parts, as do my time as a boy at Haileybury and Imperial Service College in Windsor and in Hertford, my time in my school holidays selling nylon stockings down Petticoat Lane's Street Market in the East End of London, my time involved with BBC Television in London, my time as the owner of a Grocery/Greengrocery business in Kent, and my time as the owner of a Printing works in Surrey. Enjoy!
