The 'Understanding Spoken English - Book One', by Susan Boyer, focuses on everyday language in context. It is an excellent English learning resource designed to help students of English to understand spoken language as it is encountered in everyday business and social situations in English speaking environments around the world. In addition to helping students to discover the meaning of many widely used everyday expressions, this English learning resource provides valuable information about the social and business conventions of spoken English such as, changing the topic of conversation, agreeing and disagreeing politely, checking meaning, giving feedback and making 'small talk'. Features of English pronunciation are also examined within the context of complete conversations. It is also recommended for individual study as answers to exercises are included.

Author Biography:

Susan was a contemporary Australian author with over twenty non-fiction TESOL resource titles in print. Her first book, published in 1998, 'Understanding Everyday Australian - Book One' is still in demand today. In the mid-2000s her passion was for early Australia history and published 'Across Great Divides - true stories of life at Sydney Cove' then followed the with her young reader edition 'Stories of Life at Sydney Cove'.Very sadly, in 2021 Susan, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away in February, 2022. Susan's many achievements include attaining a BA, MA and Grad Dip. In 2019 she commenced her PhD, and has been awarded a posthumous Doctorate. She was a dedicated and passionate researcher in the English language and early Australian history areas. Susan gave many presentations on TESOL subjects both domestically and internationally. Susan completed over 50 historical author talks and was on the Australian ABC 'Conversations' with Richard Fidler in April 2015.
