Description

Food allergy is the new epidemic of the 21st century, and the rise in incidence among kids is alarming. This information-packed book was written by a food allergy mom, a psychologist, and a physician expert in the field of food allergies. It is a comprehensive source of practical knowledge for parents, teachers, caregivers, and others who are concerned about food allergies and want to know how best to treat them. The chapters clarify which food allergy treatments are grounded in modern medicine, and provide practical information on the treatment methods that are currently available. It is a balanced, sympathetic, highly informative, and non-judgmental guide to treatment options for individuals suffering from food allergies, written in a way that cuts through the jargon and uses language that everyone can understand.

Author Biography:

Elizabeth Muller is the cofounder and CEO of Deep Isolation, a growing startup company that is working to solve the nuclear waste problem. She is also the cofounder and president of Berkeley Earth, a scientific research organization that focuses on environmental issues like global warming and air pollution. Elizabeth is a mother to two children who suffered from severe food allergies, an eleven-year-old girl formerly allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, buckwheat, and fish, and a seven-year-old boy now consuming many of the forty-one foods he was previously allergic to-including milk/dairy, legumes, seeds, nuts, and fruits. Elizabeth has a unique perspective on food allergy treatments because she has had her own children use three out of the four major treatments currently available. Thus, she offers not only scientific understanding but also a unique perspective for parents who are seeking treatment but who don't yet know which treatment they want to pursue. Thanks to her extensive research of the published scientific literature and discussions with leading experts, Elizabeth has become a leading contributor on social media for the topic of food allergy treatment. She is a Quora 2017 and 2018 "Top Writer" with more than 2 million views on her answers and over 27,000 followers. She is a "most viewed" writer on allergies with more than 100,000 views. She is also well known for the Facebook groups that she leads and participates in on food allergies and their treatments. Dr. Hawkins is a clinical psychologist, behavioral health consultant, and a food allergy mom and advocate. She holds a doctorate in child clinical psychology and an MPH in Health Services from the University of Washington. Dr. Hawkins is licensed and maintains a private therapy practice in the states of Washington and Oregon. One area of specialization is working with food allergy families to manage the accompanying stress, anxiety, and traumatic experiences that tend to occur with allergies.Dr. Hawkins is also the mother of two children. Her youngest daughter was severely allergic to more than twenty different foods, including seven of the nine top allergens, and suffered from severe eczema and environmental allergies. Some of her allergies were outgrown, some have been successfully treated with two of the treatments described in the book and are now included in her daily diet, and she is currently undergoing treatment for others. Dr. Hawkins combines her personal experience and education/training to help build and maintain emotional health and wellbeing for those living with food allergies. Dr. Jain first received joint MD and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin and finished his residency at the University of Texas. He completed his advanced fellowship training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Yale University School of Medicine. He then taught and practiced at the University of Washington Medical School in Seattle, where he developed a reputation as one of the finest allergists in the region. He has won numerous awards and is included in the Guide to America's Top Physiciansconsistently for the last several years. As an allergist, Dr. Jain treasures the opportunity to witness his patients make dramatic improvements after years of suffering. He can recall several instances where his patients who had previously required repeated hospital admissions for asthma exacerbations, food allergy reactions, and other medical conditions, have returned to normal lives free of hospital visits. In Dr. Jain's experience, most patients can achieve significant improvements by determining the individual triggers of their allergic reactions and by instituting appropriate therapy. Dr. Jain's practice, Columbia Allergy, has twelve clinic locations in the states of California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. More information can be found at https: //columbiaallergy.com
