Purchased on Mighty Ape

Took me back in time. So happy to find this old movie. Can find anything on Mighty Ape!

"A sadly mutilated masterpiece"
4 stars"

The end of “To Sir With Love” where the title song bursts onto the audience with a freshness and charm that make it on of the highlights of the cinematic world is completely destroyed when the “Restorers” (Destroyers would be a better term) chose to play it, the title song, over the starting credits, and throughout. the movie. This has the effect of making the whole movie an anticlimax. It is a disappointment throughout.

I found myself asking over and over, “Why have they done This-”

Description

Sidney Poitier gives one of his finest performances as Thackeray, an out-of-work engineer who turns to teaching in London's tough East End. The graduating class sets out to destroy Thackeray, as they did his predecessor, by breaking his spirit. But Thackeray, no stranger to hostility, meets the challenge by treating the students as young adults who will soon enter a world where they must stand of fall on their own. When offered an engineering job, Thackeray must decide if he wants to stay.
