Description

In this sequel to David Brown's book Signs of Grace (Continuum 1995), the author turns his attention to the saints and images of sanctity, as portrayed in art. Based on a series of highly acclaimed sermons given in Durham Cathedral, David Brown examines the artist's view of sanctity and how this enlarges our own view of the humanity and holiness of those called to be saints throughout the ages. As a result of this, the reader is led to a new understanding of the veneration of the saints and the possibilities of the call to holiness in the turbulent and secular modern world.

Author Biography

David Brown has always combined teaching posts with pastoral work. He is Van Mildert Professor of Divinity at the University of Durham and a canon of Durham Cathedral. His books include Choices, Invitation to Theology, The Divine Trinity, and, most recently, a collection of sermons, The Word Set You Free.
