The Sun Also Rises, first major novel by Ernest Hemingway, was published in 1926. Titled Fiesta in England, the novel follows a group of young American and British expatriates as they wander through Europe in the mid-1920s. They are all members of the cynical and disillusioned Lost Generation, who came of age during World War I (1914-18). The novel captures the moods, feelings, and attitudes of this hard-drinking, fast-living group of disillusioned expatriates in postwar France and Spain.

Author Biography:

Ernest Hemingway (July 21, 1899-July 2, 1961) is considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Best known for his novels and short stories, he was also an accomplished journalist and war correspondent. Hemingway's trademark prose style-simple and spare-influenced a generation of writers. His published works include The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, Death in the Afternoon, For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Old Man and the Sea, A Moveable Feast. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1952 for The Old Man and the Sea and the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature.
