Pierre Loti wurde am 14. Januar 1850 in Rochefort geboren und starb am 10. Juni 1923 in Hendaye. Er war ein französischer Marineoffizier und Schriftsteller. Zu seinen vielen Romane gehören etliche Bestseller des ausgehenden 19. und beginnenden 20. Jahrhunderts. Loti verfaßte außerdem Reisebeschreibungen aus dem Nahen und Fernen Osten. Quelle: Wikipedia
