Liffield de Lega deserts his Norman lord to fight with a band of desperate Saxon warriors. His physician-astrologer takes up the story of the band's travel over sea and desert under their determined leader Lega, who has been enchanted by witchcraft. His woman, Elizabeth, and his faithful servant Halfbutt, follow him to the end, to the sorceress's caverns, where they will meet their fate.
