Description

Can the latest Victorian invention give Joe what he really wants? When Joe Hopkins boards a ferry to go on holiday, he doesn't expect to find himself shipwrecked. But by the time he washes up on a Cornish beach, he knows he has slipped into the past again. Victorian England is quite different to how he imagined: few of the great inventions of the age have reached the fishing village where Lucy lives. But when Joe has the chance to try out the latest technology - photography - he jumps at it. Can it give him the thing he has desired for so long, a picture of his dearest friend that he can keep? And will the camera prove once and for all that he was there beside her? "The Shimmer on the Glass" is the sixth book in The Scar Gatherer series.

Author Biography:

Julia Edwards was born in 1977. She lives in Salisbury, UK, with her husband, three children, nine chickens, and some deer that keep getting into her garden and eating her flowers. Julia is the author of The Scar Gatherer series, a sequence of seven time-travel adventures for 8 to 12 year olds. In the sixth book, "The Shimmer on the Glass", the hero, Joe, is washed up from a ship-wreck on the shores of Victorian Cornwall. The other six books in the series are: "The Leopard in the Golden Cage", set in Roman Britain; "Saving the Unicorn's Horn", set in the Viking Age; "The Falconer's Quarry", set in Tudor England; "The Demon in the Embers", set during the Great Fire of London; "Slaves for the Isabella", set at the height of the Transatlantic Slave Trade; and "The Ring from the Ruins", set in Liverpool during the Blitz. When she's not chasing round after children or chickens, or trying to shoo the deer away, Julia is working on another book for children set in the past. She has also published her first book for adults, "Time was Away", which is available on Amazon, and a collection of comic and nasty short stories for children called, "Unlucky for Some: Tales with a Bite for Vengeful Hearts".
