Nigel M. de S. Cameron leads the Washington, DC think tank the Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies (C-PET). Before that he served as a Research Professor and Associate Dean at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, where he established the Center on Nanotechnology and Society. In 2015-16 he was Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Science and Society at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He also serves as Chair of the UK think tank BioCentre. He has written extensively on the ethical and policy impacts of technology; testified before congressional committees on cloning, stem cell research, and the security implications of emerging technologies; and represented the United States at the UN General Assembly. He has served four terms as a Commissioner of the United States National Commission for UNESCO, appointed by both Secretary Rice and Secretary Clinton, and has chaired its Committee on Social and Human Sciences. Other recent commitment have included chairing the Dubai GITEX and FutureTech conferences, being interviewed at conferences of The Economist magazine in Hong Kong and Madrid, and speaking on the world in one hundred years at the conference of the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon. His next book, Will Robots Take our Jobs? Policy, Risk, and Consensus, is due out in 2017 Born and raised in the United Kingdom, he has lived in the United States for more than 25 years.
