Author Biography:

William James (1842–1910) – the ‘Father of American psychology’ – was a groundbreaking philosopher, historian and psychologist. A key figure in the establishment of the schools of pragmatism, functional psychology and radical empiricism, he influenced all manner of thinkers, from W.E.B. Du Bois to Bertrand Russell. His many works include The Principles of Psychology, Essays in Radical Empiricism, The Varieties of Religious Experience, Pragmatism: A New Name for Some Old Ways of Thinking and The Meaning of Truth. Professor Marika Taylor (Series Foreword) is a Professor of Theoretical Physics and Head of School within Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton. Her research interests include all aspects of string theory, gravitational physics and quantum field theory. In recent years much of her work has been focused on holographic dualities and their implications. Marika's research has featured in such publications as Physical Review, Journal of High Energy Physics and General Relativity and Gravitation among others.
