The Long Climb author, Carl Douglass, a former neurosurgeon turned author who writes with gripping realism, has the luxury now in retirement to write about the turbulent era in which he lived and practiced the demanding profession of neurosurgery. His training was one of great rigor; his practice was one of heartbreaks and triumphs; and his social life bordered on nil. His good wife of fifty years and the author now enjoy their time of reflection, travel, and family relationship--all largely the product of his wife's steadfast support during the lean years, the years of success.
