As the title would suggest, this collection of adventures focus of the players taking the roles of Kai Lords patrolling the borders of Sommerlund, looking out for any threats to the realm. As such, adventuring parties with few or no Kai Lords will find some of the three scenarios provided difficult to deal with, as they assume that players will be playing Kai Lords of moderate competancy and power (unless the Narrator is prepared to re-write them, to give other character types ways of dealing with the challenges). This softcover book, however, does also contain a chapter dedicated to creating new adventures; while experienced Narrators may already know the basics of adventure-crafting, it can still prove a source of inspiration, and for new-comers to running RPGs (let alone the Lone Wolf Adventure Game [LWAG]), they will find the advice contained within highly useful. While not as ‘essential’ as some of the other titles in the LWAG series, ‘Adventures of the Kai’ is a solid product and worth getting, especially for new Narrators and/or Kai Lord-only games.
